I am having problems clarifying what needs to be done regarding the notarization of my criminal check.
All solicitors in London whom I have rang up say that if the document is used abroad then I will need a full notarization (cheapest so far is �50 and I will need to wait for the 'appointment') and then I will need to send it to the FCO afterwards: if I don't do this the the document is invalid.
I recall going to Kidd Rapinet and getting the signature and stamp on my criminal check for �5 only! That was enough for the FCO. Im not even sure of the terms to be used here, whether 'legalization' or 'notarization' is correct.
It took me in excess of three weeks to receive the document, I didn't have these problems before. I don't want to have to re-order another criminal check. |

Are you getting your check from Disclosure Scotland as they will notarise it for me for free. If not then Kidd Rapinet should do it cheaply, used them for my degree certificate.
Notralisation is what the solicitors do the confirm that its an authentic copy of whatever document. You need this to get the FCO to legalise your documents.
Legalisation is the British government department confirming its a legal document in this country for the benefit of another.
I don't think the Korean government care about notorisation only the legalisation. If the FCO accept something signed by Kidd Rapinet then you can get it legalised which is all you need. |

You dont need to get your documents 'notorized' just go to any local high street solicitors and ask them to certify your documents and bring the originals along with you. Thats what i did and it cost me �2 per document!! you really shouldnt pay more than �5-10 per document. When you use the word 'notorize' then the price immediately shoots up, for us UK people we dont need them notorized only certified (not to sure what the difference is though)  |

This. Don't tell them why you need it certified as genuine, most solicitors will tell you that you have to get it notarised (and please give me 50/70 quid for the privilege) as soon as you say it's for use abroad. But, in reality, the FCO will accept a CRC certified by any registered solicitor, you don't need a Notary to do it. |

Kidd Rapinet asked me if I was using it for Korea and charged me �5, if you can go there I would reccomend it. They did it in about 5 minutes and were friendly. I assume since they do alot of these they should be okay to use. That was of course for my degree not criminal check. |
