I went to my local police dept and they said they do not do fingerprints (WTF, I know..), so I was recommended to go to the nearest UPS office. I am a bit hesitant about that because I don't want to get my prints taken by someone who doesn't know what they're doing.. should I try to get it done at a police station if possible?
Secondly, I am filling out my EPIK application (I'm submitting it online using a recruiter) and I still need a JPEG format passport-quality photo. I was thinking of taking it myself (using a tripod and a digital camera - mine isn't fantastic but it's a basic 5.0 megapixel point-and-shoot) since I would just have to scan a printed photo anyway if I paid to have one taken at Walmart or something. Bad idea?
Thanks guys! |

i got mine done at a shady photo/fingerprint truck in the middle of a city, and my prints passed.
i've read people got them done at many places, even police stations and they have failed before. the FBI can be picky when they want to. just send in a couple sets of prints and I'm sure you won't have a problem at all. |

Call your local STATE police to see if they do that. That's what I had to do , here in Pennsylvania. Philly police wouldn't do them. The state police roll your prints on a cardboard type paper with ink. I did that back in September & it takes about 8-9 weeks to get the results. (STILL waiting)
Also, get two copies done in case the FBI can't read your prints for some reason.
I also had to go the UPS store to get a digital print scan done, but that was not for EPIK. It was for a substitute teacher job at a local school district, here in PA. That only took about 1 week to get a 'no criminal record' result.
Unfortunately, digital fingerprints aren't accepted for FBI CBC checks to work in Korea.... & those are the only prints a UPS store would do - to the best of my knowledge .
I had a friend take my photo at first , but i know EPIK does require passport quality photos, so I'm going to go to a CVS and pay the $10.00
Also, did your recruiter say anything about the timing of your EPIK application ??
My recruiter told me to get all my paperwork in by the end of the month, as they are closing the app process up soon (supposedly) ...
I got accepted to EPIK and am freaking out I will get dropped if I dont get my FBI CBC back in time. |

I looked up "police station" in my area on google maps, located the nearest police station, clicked on it, and it gave me the county government website that had info on where to get fingerprints (which ended up not being at that police station listed on google).
Anyway, you could try finding info on your county's government website (type "fingerprints" in the search bar on the website). Or, I think UPS is fine. I'm pretty sure some users on this site got their prints done at UPS. I just preferred to get them done by people who do it all the time.
As for the passport-sized photo, I just put on my suit and had my sister take the picture (white wall was my backdrop). My camera was only a 4 megapixel. I cropped it using MS Paint. Worked fine. |

Not sure that's quite true. You can't get the kind of check you did for your substitute teaching job because those don't get put on the FBI fingerprint card. But the place I went to was able to put the digital prints on the fingerprint card. But we'll see. If you're right, and there's some other reason they won't accept digital prints, then I'm in for one unpleasant surprise.

Roll the prints yourself. Look online on how to take prints and use the FBI card online. Print it on standard copy paper. That's what I did and I had no trouble.
Also, take your own photo if you want. Just make sure you follow the rules for it. Size, lighting, color, positioning. Again, I did it for my photos before and had no trouble. To be fair, I'm an amateur photographer and I know how to properly light a photo, but again, if you look online you can find the info you need. Of course, it's probably easier to go to the CVS/Walgreens and get the photo done. As far as fingerprints go though, that's simple to do on your own. |

Wait. What are you saying here? That UPS only does digital prints? But others have gotten their prints taken at UPS.
Tomorrow will be the four week mark that the FBI has had my prints. Apparently, that's when I can call them about my CBC status. I'll ask them about digital prints, but I'm pretty sure the stipulation wasn't about digital prints, but that the prints had to be on an FD-258 fingerprint card (or printout of one).
But seriously, why can't we use the digital prints that are sent electronically and get the results in a week? That's the way it was done when I applied to become a public school teacher here in the US. It doesn't make any sense. |
