The people who have been out of Korea over a year don't seem to get that it is actually very difficult to find a job here now.
It ain't 2006 anymore.
A lot of the panhandlers I remember from those days wouldn't stand a chance now. They wouldn't even get into 10-10 kindy hogwon. Same goes for some of the vets pontificating on here. |

Isn't your parttime agency in conflict with terms and conditions of your public sector contract?
Maybe all the privates you did in Korea has inured you to that kind of problem. |
Not at all.
We have the right to double employment as long as its not in the same field or using PS resources.
Neither is the case.
But thanks for taking that lame shot anyway.
As for the privates in Korea I did a few while on the F-visa...which was LEGAL. Again, thanks for the lame shot.
This is pretty much why I do not post in detail about my work on here...people like you then just take pathetic little pot shots to stir the pot. Don't you have anything better to do shifter? Don't you have a bingo/hangman haggie lesson to deliver tomorrow (since you took shots at me heck..I will too). |
Well, I was genuinely curious.
All your stuff about me taking pot shots at you is generally nonsense. I will admit though, my snide remark about the privates is definitely on the edge. But I did put a smiley there, hey! What more do you want?
Otherwise my belated congratulations on your reply to Plume. It's to the point and nicely concise. I thought he had really put his foot in it that time and was going to get a treatise with both barrels. |
Sorry if I missunderstood your post shifty but you did take a pot shot at me, you often do and then you counter with "oh it was not a shot but perhaps it was a snide remark"...which is really the same as taking a shot.
Such is life. |

| I'm surprised Patrick answered at all - I don't see the other posters putting up detailed explanations of their employment like they're requesting from him. |

That was to (hopefully) clear up some stuff for plumme and clear the air vice what WT is saying.
Still, that is as much detail as I will put out here. More would be dumb and asking for trouble from some of the nutjobs who populate online forums. I already had a taste of it a few years ago with some people here, it will NOT happen again. |

Doesn't seem that any of the vets "pontificating on here" are having a hard time finding a job. |

Hmmm a much higher proportion of the "not in Korea" demographic than those "in Korea" are posters I think this site would be better off without.
They seem much more wound up. |

You have to be kidding? I mean, me, steel, tum, captain c, not to mention plenty of others.....
Edit - here's a smiley for those that have no sense of humor (and are thus proving my point lol.)

If you're going to mention me, mention specifically what you have a problem with.
No need to hide behind mini-jabs, come straight out. |

Edited. Don't want to get moderated over such a petty thing.

I like Korea more since I started pretending I don't live here. I can only imagine how much I'll like the place after I've actually left and can really forget how it feels to live here, like all the oppressive gloom and profound unfairness in the way this country's leaders treat their people. Maybe I will even come back to Daves and start riding people for whining and being ungrateful for their great opportunity to make okay money in the land of the hopeless. |

So in less than a month of being a member here, you've got beef with a lot of posters. You called me out by name... Why not elaborate? |

Because they got their foot in the door when hiring standards were much, much, much lower. There are people here (who have been here for years) working in top ranked universities with only a BA. No way in hell they'd get hired as a "professor" now with the quals they have. The self righteous vets got lucky coming when they did a long time ago. But they attribute 100% of their success to how great and wonderful they are. |

LOL... so you want to play that game.... lower standards my arse...
Associate of Arts - English, Associate of Science - Physics, BA - Economics, B.Sc. - Computer Science, B.Com. - Mgmt, MBA, MA, ABD.
Just to aid in the math.... 2 associates, 3 bachelors, 2 masters, 1 ABD.
When you get up to my level let me know.
Yes, a lot of newbies are coming in at the entry level and most of them will be gone in a year or 2. They are just doing the gap-year thing before heading off to their "real careers". They would typically not be the "vets" who are here for 10 or more years.
I would be very careful about talking about "under qualified" people being "lucky, self righteous vets" when you lump us all into the pot unless of course you are working on your 2nd PhD (or other terminal degree). Many of us have continued our "professional development over the years.
If you are working on your 2nd Ph.D./Ed.D you can ignore my previous statements and I will defer to your superior qualifications in the field and invite you to come to the next Asian Education Leaders Forum and you can join us for coffee with the Secretary General of ASEAN or SEAMEO.
Oh, and I have never had a problem finding a job but I do consider professional development to be an on-going and life-long endeavor.

No, you didn't misunderstand my post, I mean how clear can clear be?
To repeat, I don't take pot shots at you. Rather I respond to outrageous things you say and way you couch things.
For example, look above in the quoted bit. You say "Don't you have a bingo/hangman haggie lesson to deliver tomorrow?" Are you not aware that many posters teach at hakwons and you showing outright contempt for them?
This is an abiding theme of yours and I think it unwarranted and objectionable. |
