|
|
I was just told that a class was cancled today so the kids could go to middle school orientation, but one of the girls is not going to middle school so I need to entertain her/teach her for an hour. Any ideas on short notice.
Thank you. |

| I had to "teach" these three girls once. All they wanted to do was read about princesses and draw pictures of a carriage with a prince and princess inside. |

| I've had to do one-on-ones a bunch of times when school tests or trips wittle down my class sizes. Usually I just sit and talk to them about their lives, usually with a few fun or silly topics up my sleeve to fill the gaps. |

| Make a fashion magazine with her. My girls love doing the "Hot or Not" section. I make sure that they describe exactly what they're drawing. |

| Whatever you do get Mr Bean loaded and keep it on standby just in case what you decide to do doesn't work. |

| I have avoided Mr. Bean videos for 8 years. I don't know why. I love the videos. I finally downloaded the whole series and 2 movies. I have been playing one these past 2 weeks. It's a high school, but I am sure the kids will like them. One student in fact brother his brother (Koreans) age 7 and he said I acted like Mr. Bean. |

Yep, thats typical. In one-off or casual small classes with younger students it can be really productive to just let the student take the lead. You can mine whatever they come up with for lots of vocab practice & laughs & get to know them better. Them teaching you some korean actually involves a good bit of english communication.
Always good to have something on hand like interesting pictures or a really simple game, but 9 times out of 10 you wont need them. Sometimes just hanging out with some easy english thrown in has real value. |
