is there a way to get an internet phone number with a 070 korean area code, and use it in the States?
so if a someone from Korea wanted to call you even when you're in the States, they can dial a Korean 070 number, but you can receive the call in the States? |

We know of a Korean living in Thailand that uses the LG 070 internet phone. Works just like you said, so doing the same in the US shouldn't be that different. |

We had a LG 070 phone in NZ, worked just like a local Korean phone also free calls to people with the same phone. Also used it at the airport in Australia (wifi hotspot) and in china.
Can't see why it wouldn't work in the states? |

Skype should allow you to purchase a Korean number. I had a Korean number and US number while living in Korea. |

To buy a Skype number you need to be a resident and have an ID number. I'm not sure if they check that you are still a resident after you get the number or you can just renew it. |

This must be new because I didn't have to do all of that. I just bought the number. |

I think the requirement to be "local" is new as of a few years ago. I have used VOIP (Internet phones) for a long time. When I got here I could find companies that used to sell 070 numbers but no longer do.
It appears Korea does not want 070 numbers used outside the county. I have only found a couple of resellers (other than Skype) and they all want big bucks ($30 - $50 a month) for the number.
I have been watching this thread hoping someone had found a reseller other than Skype, but it appears not. |

so, it appears that Skype will be my only option.
so... if i buy a 070 number from Skype and then install the Skype app on my smartphone (i currently have a Blackberry and have Skype installed) and go to the US, i can receive the calls like it was my normal phone, correct? i can go back and forth from Korea and the US and just use the 070 number as my phone??
that seems pretty cool. 30$ i can do... 50$ is a little too much. |
