Instead of walking around aimlessly trying to find a gym in these areas, can anyone give me directions and monthly fees so I can check them out tomorrow on my day off?

The only one I found today was the one located in Seokgyo Hotel, which charges close to 200,000 won per month.

I used to work out at the Hongik University gym. Sign up now and it should be empty basically all winter break. I was going there during the summer break and I was usually the only person in that big facility. Has everything you need including a squat rack. Price was like 20,000 per month or something ridiculously cheap.

If you can't find an alternative, my suggestion is to look into getting a set of adjustable dumbbells with a fair amount of weight and an adjustable seat/dumbbell bench. Yeah, it's not as nice as all the equipment and onus to go that a gym membership brings you, but I feel it's worth it to save money, stay at home. You might not be able to do a lot of leg workouts, but with how much you walk and stand as a teacher, your legs get a decent workout in Korea by default. I always thought it was worth it.

The Seokyo Hotel was running a special for 3months for 120,000WON. I called them maybe two weeks ago and they were still doing this.

Eagle Fitness in Sinchon is expensive and small but I've heard the equipment is good.

Theres also a gym thats across the street from the Arteon Theater in Sinchon. Its hidden from the main road, so go towards the back and its connected to a school. That place is good, decent price 75K-85K and the equipment is nice. Lots of people though.

Lots of gyms in Sinchon on the main drag, if you can read Korean you should be able to find them.[/list]

I lived in Sinchon/Hongdae for a few years and the best place I found was Swash Fitness at the Dongyo-dong intersection between the stations...across from the Rinnai building. Great prices, awesome staff, good equipment. Check it out.

Hey there chungbukdo...can I get some info from you? I'm a pretty big guy and really looking for a gym in hongdae with heavy weights. Like 50 kg dumbbells at least. Of course, I like lots of machines too. Does the hongik gym have this?

A couple weeks ago I went into the campus and into the building right next to the main gate. It looked like the gym. But everything was closed because it was winter break and I couldn't see anything. Could you give me some info?

Just for anyone who wants to know, the Hongik Uni gym had a squat rack, bumper plates, etc.

I also saw a pro korean bodybuilder come in to train there once in a while, but it was practically empty all summer.

I know you're looking for a gym specifically for weights, the boxing gym I go to has a weight section, albeit tiny, and is 100,000 won a month if you pay monthly. Close to the University main gate.

I'm assuming you're asking me. Hongdae I meant.

Definitely difficult to train when it is empty. No energy.

fermentation, I assume being a boxing gym, it has a bag to punch.
Its it big enough to kick too? Where is it?
I'm ideally looking for a place I can goto for cheap that has a bag big enough top punch and kick, hopefully low kicks like thigh kicks.
Thanks

Yes, obviously there will be punching bags of various kinds. Mine is not a big gym so there are only 3 free hanging heavy bags, and a few other types of bags. They are all pretty big and long enough to throw leg kicks at, although I'm not sure if the gym owner would allow that. You would have to talk to him. I've seen the assistant coach tell a guy to stop after seeing him kick the bag, but I've also seen a guy who's a former kickboxer kick the bag a few times. So I really have no idea.

Here's the location

It may be just a bit too far for you depending on where you live, but you can't beat the price. The Mapo Arts Center gym at Daheung station...several buses go near there from Sinchon Rotary. Costs 45,000 a month, has everything you need. Swimming classes, too if you want them.
