|

Hi,
I'm hoping to find an Aussie or someone who knows someone with this experience.
My Korean husband and I have just applied for his Partner (subclass 309/100) visa. I would like to know how long it has taken for others to have the visa processed and/or any other information (such as the interview process/medical check procedure) you might like to share!
Cheers,

Are you doing this while in Korea or Australia.
It's aparently a different process if youa re overseas, we did ours in Australia.
Once you have all your paperwork and visit it the office it's possible to get the temporary visa (which covers you for 2 years) while they assess your application straight away.
Anyway I am not the best source because we had special circumstances (my wife was pregnant) so it was much easier than what it seemed for other couples.
There is a webiste called something like Missy Aus or such, basically a naver/daum cafe site that would be very helpful. It is all in Korean but your Husband would get a lot of info ont he process from there. |

Thanks BLM,
Yes, I forgot to mention that we are doing it through the embassy in Korea. We have submitted our paperwork just this week and somehow we had the idea that it should take 2-3 months for him to get the temp. (2 year) visa, but apparently it is more like 6...one migration agent here even said 9!
My husband has gathered a little info from reading that website, but he can't login properly or something because it's a women's discussion group...I thought that was kinda funny!
While the circumstances are definitely different, how long did it take for your wife to be granted the temp visa? And did you do it here or in Australia?
Cheers,

Once we had all the documents ready (from the list online) we got the temporary visa that day. We went to immigration in the morning and and were able to go to medicare and get a medicare card for her straight after.
That was in Australia though.
Overseas does take longer though, I couldn't find it on their webiste but I think their was a madatory wait of six months processing time.
We didn't bother using an agent and just did it all ourselves.
Edit: Agent is probably the way to go if there is something which might cause a problem, if your spouse is over 50, has a helath condition or a criminal record. If either of you have been married before (probably not a problem unless Children involved).
Make sure you have most of the documents you need when you go so they can see your nto a time waster and are organised. They should treat you a lot better but this is the AUstralian Government so be prepared for them to be rude to you at least once.

Hi,
Just found this post today. My husband (Korean) and I applied for his visa in October, 2011 and have yet to hear back from the embassy. They did send notification that they received all the documents we had sent but apart from that, there's been very little contact or information coming from them. My husband called them and the officer in charge of his application told him that they would likely be interviewing him in December, but it never happened and when he called them again to ask, they told him he would simply just have to wait.
We were hoping to be granted the visa before my working contract here finishes at the end of next month but it's starting to look like it won't happen. They also told us there would be a 9-12 month waiting period to process the application, but we had heard that that was the standard answer and a lot of applicants usually receive theirs much earlier.
Anyway, any more news about your husband's visa? |

Hi Candie,
I just saw your reply!
It sounds like we have a really similar situation going on.
My husband emailed them just last week. We hadn't heard anything at all since our initial email to say that they received our application. So in his email he asked them for an approximate processing time and whether we have been assigned a case officer yet.
The reply we got back almost a week later came from our case officer. It basically said, 'I am your case officer, your application is being processed. Thank you for your patience'. Basically, we only found out that yes, we do have a Case Officer.
I've heard that usual processing time is 5-6 months, I really hope that the timeline they gave your husband was a gross exaggeration. So far though, most people's stories we've heard about (we've been following the 'missy hoju' blog on Naver) seem to indicate 6 months.
Good luck!
We are in the same boat. My contract is up at the end of Feb and we were hoping to leave in March, it's difficult having no idea about how to plan the next few months... |

hi Humlae,
My husband just had his interview today after following up on them last week. He sent them an email as well early last week asking them who exactly his case officer was, if he had one to begin with, and what he needed to do with regards to his criminal and health check in case he decided to travel as a tourist to Australia with me after my contract finishes. Anyway, his case worker called him last Friday wanting to do the interview by phone but my husband asked if they could reschedule to today.
Long story short, they need more documents from us (more financial proof that we're together and living in the same place) and then they said they would notify him after of when he can get his criminal and health check. My husband asked them again what the estimate processing time would be after all the documents were submitted but all his case officer could tell him was that if there were still other visa applications being processed ahead of him on the line, he would simply have to wait. They couldn't even give him a time line any more.
Can I ask you when you submitted your application? My husband submitted his around the middle of October last year and we were hoping to have it by February too. Looks like I'll be heading home to Australia without him for awhile.
Hopefully we'll both have more luck now that the new year is over here in Korea! |
