|
|
Hey everyone,
I'm doing some research and I've lost a picture that I desperately need. A while back there were several signs written in Helios and Geckos (I have nothing against this place and it's more for objective research than for bashing) regarding their policies on Nigerians.
If someone happened to take a picture of these signs can you please PM it to me or at least point me in the right direction for finding them?
Thanks.
--By the way, both places have since changed their policies and likely also have juggled ownership by now. I'm talking like 8 or 9 years ago. |

I have a "No Foreigners" picture from a club at mudfest. I have heard of "No Soldiiers" signs. Nigerians sell drugs, soldiers fight and others take korean girls. Is that why? |

But it's not racist.
You must remember that America had black slaves.
Koreans aren't racist to Nigerians, they just don't apreciate their culture.
(actually, all kidding aside, I heard from several itaewon bar owners that it's due to the gangs of Nigerian pickpockets or guys that go in, don't buy a drink and steal jackets and backpacks etc.) |

There are Koreans only places in US and Canada, so I've heard. But the best still goes to a nightclub named "International Club" in Pusan or wherever.
Sorry, no foreigners, said the big door guy. |

Do you mind PMing me or sending me the picture? I'm just doing a historical picture-graph of sorts of the expat experience. This would help a great deal. |

This isn't as negative a study as you may perceive. In some ways, what I'm trying to show is the change in Korea and the change in foreign treatment. In fact, by no longer having the sign it is evidence to the extent that perhaps the notion of human rights is working.
I don't know if Koreans like Nigerians or not--honestly, I could care less. I'm just doing a historiographical sketch on the changes in foreign treatment in the country. Not sure how (if any) that relates to the problem of slavery in the US.
If you have a picture, that would surely support the premises for your argument. Can you perhaps send it to me?

Sorry but just focusing on Korea for now. Can you help me out with a no-entry photo by chance? |

Read what I wrote and then what you wrote when you quoted me. Then you'll understand my reply! Mine in bold, your's in underline for easy refereance.
If by chance your 'uh?' refers to the parodying comment I was commenting on the proclivity of apologists to wipe away any criticsm of inequal treatment of foriegners in Korea by mentioning Jim Crow and that it's not racism etc, just cultural differerances. |

From what I know, every country has participated in some degree in slavery (even of their own people). Chinua Achebe wrote an excellent book related to inter-tribal conflict called Things Fall Apart. And if you're not the reading type, Mel Gibson did a pretty interesting ad-lib on the point with his Apocolypto.
Personally, I don't think that human rights is an issue of country-to-country comparison. If that were the case, then I guess we should just throw our hands up in the air and claim that every country has sufficiently done its job and use Rwanda and Somalia as our bar.
I'm completely at a lose in terms of how Jim Crow laws are somehow being belittled to a cultural difference. If you have a picture or perhaps a bit more information as to how you're making this brash judgement then please send it to me. From what I can tell it seems the blanket term "culture" somehow suffices in justifying the maltreatment of a generation when (to adopt your strategy) other countries in the world were actually pushing to do away with ethnic-based argumentation (peruse Anthropological and political literature in pre-1964 England).
I wouldn't say that America stands as the bar for understanding anything in terms of either slavery or racial tension. Sadly, the world seems to think such things. Perhaps that's why in certain places it seems that human rights/ racial relations and the global perception of it have taken a step backward rather than forward. |

Are you doing this deliberately? I never said anythign that a picture could back up!
To re-clarify (for the last time.)
1. I was parodying the apologists. You've been on this site long enough to have seen it.
2. I was told in person by some itaewon bar owners that they do not like Nigerians in their bars as their was a spate of Nigerian gangs pickpocketing and stealing personal belongings in their bars. I do not have a picture of them telling me this and I never claimed once to have seen a 'no Nigerians' sign, so obviously I cannot provide a picture of that either. Perhaps you are posting lazilly, or mistaking me for another poster. |
