Im sorry, and who am I to tell you what to do with your life, but what are you guys talking about traveling around to Prague and Mexico City going to do for retirement money?
You are making peanuts now, what are you going to do when your bald, fat and fifty with 25k in the bank?
I think most ESLers have the mind of a naive child--never thinking about the future and one day it will all blow up in their face.

Different people = Different circumstances...In my case I worked my ass off in a well paid high pressure job in London for over 10 years and have money in various investments that I will not touch for several more years, I also own a house in England which I rent out. So in all honesty I am not too worried about the future and If i wish to enjoy what youth I have left by travelling around and seeing the world whilst doing a relatively easy job then I think I am entitled to do so. Also I dont see what been bald and fat has to do with being fifty, I know people over 50 who are not bald or fat and I know people under thirty who are bald and fat.

Hey Dodge, Im sure you a great person and I am not knocking you in any way .. However I just read your post in the General Discussion Forum " Korea is turning me into an alcoholic " and was wondering how you can lecture anyone about future life plans when you are necking a 40oz beer and a bottle of Soju every week night and who know what else on the weekend. Now who is the irresponsible one eh ?

Spent time working in both countries.Lovely places and bloody fascinating cultures and historical sites, but you'll have to get used to living on rolls and soup packets to survive.

Really? I heard the money was decent in Prague. I converted it to won and the girl I talked to there was making ~1.6 million. Not as much as here, but you can live alright on that there.

Just did.

Dodge why are you having a go at ESL teachers when you are an ESL teacher? Also seems like you are marrying a Korean so you will be teaching ESL for a while yet unless your Korean is pretty good. No doubt you will reply to this with some detailed grand plan about how you will save cash for a few years then set up a business or something. Maybe the very posters you criticised have a similar plan? The one lad from london for example has his money situation sorted.

Not a bad idea.
Did you know people all over the world study English their whole life in hopes of one day being able to come to live in the United States? It's the richest country in the world and the top choice for immigrants. People on this board who say America has gone to pot really don't know what they are talking about.
Also, awesome has more than one meaning, and educated people understand the non-colloquial context.
Yes, awesome possibilities exist in the U.S. for the intelligent and hard working.

Pull the stick out of your butt and stop assuming inferance from my words where I made none.

Ps, you're not on school time right now so stop your grandstanding and lecturing.

There are quite a few similes for 'knob' too.

Not even directed at you, really. Just a comment to regarding the previous awesomeness thread and constant America bashing that goes on in this forum.

I'm not offended in the least by the opinions of strangers on an anonymous message board and neither should you.

But what I said was insightful and goes against the grain of common thought here. I hope you learned something new.

If you must insist on your grandstanding, I'm afraid I'll have to teach you something new.

Immigration to the eu from peple outiside of it outnumbered immigration to the us by 43 to one (43 million to 1 million) in 2010.

Not that I think that's neccesarily a good thing and something to get all 'we're numbah one' about.....

Nope. You misread the statistics, brah.

Quote:
In 2010, 47.3 million people lived in the EU, who were born outside their resident country. This corresponds to 9.4% of the total EU population. Of these, 31.4 million (6.3%) were born outside the EU and 16.0 million (3.2%) were born in another EU member state.

Now look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_the_United_States

Foreign Born Population Among U.S. Immigrants
2010
40,500,000

Let's see:

The EU is 27 countries with a population of over half a billion...

...meaning the U.S. by far has propotionally more immigrants.

Also,

Quote:
As of 2006, the United States accepts more legal immigrants as permanent residents than all other countries in the world combined.[1]

Why don't you live there? Serious question and not meant to be a troll post. If you feel the way you do about the United States (which I don't take any umbradge with, I like the States) why do you choose to live elsewhere. If I felt the way about my home country (the UK) that you do about yours I doubt I would have ever left (or I would have returned quickly if I did).
