Hey, so I'm approaching the end of my first year in Korea and I have been having a lot of fun. I have spent some weekends travelling but not as much as I would have liked so for my second year I'm thinking about going to different parts of the country to taste the signature dishes of those places e.g. Andong is famous for jjimdak. So what I need from you guys and gals are the names of the dishes and places that they became famous. Cheers!

Do you really buy into that crap that rice (or whatever) from a particular city is better than rice (or whatever) from another city?

Ya I do, have you never had the bibimbap in Jeonju. It was the best bibimbap I've ever had. I'd also like to believe that Korean food isn't like McDonalds and tastes the same wherever you eat it.

Yeah. Normally bibimbap is a so so dish, I mean lets face it bunch of stringy vegetables in rice with some pepper paste.

Then I had it in Jeonju and I was like 'WTF do they do to it here to make it sooooooo damn good.'

It was absolutely delicious.

As for the op, well I'm in Busan, so fish.

Went to a sushi restaurant last weekend. Paid 6500 for ten pieces.

Now in other cities I've lived in in Korea

1. The seafood wouldn't be fresh
2. It would be mostly white fish for that price
3. The strips of fish would be the same size as the rice base, about the length and widhe of a matchbox or a bic lighter.

Wow Busan!

I got for 6500, 4 pieces with tuna belly, 4 pieces with salmon, one piece crab and one piece shrimp. No tasteless white fish. And the pieces of fish were (yup I used my cig box to measure them) ONE AND A HALF TIMES THE LENGTH OF A CIGARETTE BOX!

Deal!

its not outrageously expensive, for two people (1 duck) anywhere from 30-50 000 won with all the sides/ extras. (minus booze).
