Draz - yes, it should have gone up.

premiummince - I've never heard of dakbaeksuk but it sounds like a blander samgyetang.

PatrickGHBusan - I haven't had ori bulgogi either, but that sounds pretty good!

Not sure where you are in Canada, but if you're in Toronto, the kimchi chigge at book chan dong on Bloor West is really great, and cheap:

Also Jinmi rak across the street is awesome for cam gyup sal, and cheap:

Then I suggest you try it King...ori bulgogi was one of the nice surprises as far as meals went in Korea. Well worth it!

Its duck meat cut in slices and cooked on the grill with spicy marinated sauce and veggies. Its pretty darn delicious!

I am near Toronto and know the place you mentionned ;0

Ori bulgogi imo is slices of randomly cut pieces of duck meat (thus you get all the stringy and gristly bits along for the ride to ruin it) poorly cooked and smothered in a sauce that made the flavour of the duck unoticable. And I had to have it at several places as it was a fave of my principal.

I always felt like 'man can't I have just some slices of duck rather than random, poorly fillited hunks cut up with scissors and smothered in sauce?

Duck is best roasted and sliced, not cut into random chunks and broiled in sauce.

Just my personal preferance of course Laughing

I'm in Busan, so fish.

Went to a sushi restaurant last weekend. Paid 6500 for ten pieces.

Now in other cities I've lived in in Korea

1. The seafood wouldn't be fresh
2. It would be mostly white fish for that price
3. The strips of fish would be the same size as the rice base, about the length and width of a matchbox or a bic lighter.

Wow Busan!

I got for 6500, 4 pieces with tuna belly, 4 pieces with salmon, one piece crab and one piece shrimp. No tasteless white fish. And the pieces of fish were (yup I used my cig box to measure them) ONE AND A HALF TIMES THE LENGTH OF A CIGARETTE BOX!

Deal!

Aw my bad, you said Seoul and Gwangju.

Tak galbi with all kinds of additions like cheesu is popular now, but you said no fusion.

I saw a docu and there are places that sell turtle meat and turtle soup. They're too cute for me to eat though.

Are there any non fusion Korean dishes out there? Seeing as how they would likely need to be based on having ingrediants not traditional to Korea they might fall under the fusion umbrella I guess.

Certainly good affordable higher end eating out for groups is one of koreas main attractions.

That REALLY depends on where you go Floating. We know a couple of great places in Busan that do NOT do this.

The cooking is UP TO YOU as its cooked ON THE TABLE.

The Sauce is mixed in as you like on the grill..so again you have control over it.

Heck this is one the best features of grilling on the table!

Still, you have some pretty darn bad duck places out there, heck, you have some horrible anything places out there and magically some great places too....how absolutely odd. lol

Ya gotta check out the restaurants and find the good ones as always.

As for roasted duck, there used to be great little place for it in Busan, near nanchandong subway station but last time we visited it had closed. Too bad as it was pretty great.

To echo what you said however, Busan is great for many types of fish. Its very fresh, affordable and usually pretty darn good.

Sashimi & fish are def on the list.

Even though I won't be going to Pusan, it's difficult enough to get good sashimi here, at a reasonable price (like, under $200 for 2 people), that I'm going to relish being back in the warm embrace of a fish-loving people.
