Just wondering if anyone has filed US taxes on your Korean income and how you did it. I think I need to file but of course I have no information from my employer on my income or how much I paid in Korean taxes. I think I will have to go to a tax professional to help with this because the rules for filing are so complicated, but I don't know what information I can give them beyond my best guess. From what I understand, my income would be exempt from US taxes but after reading the rules on the IRS website, I'm afraid I will end up owing. If anyone has any experience with this, your advice would be very much appreciated.

You are exempt for up to 85 million won per year, if you are from the USA. Yes, you still have to file.

Basically, if you are this clueless, I suggest you go to H&R Block in Korea before you leave.

"before you leave" is incorrect advice, as there's still a time limit on when to file

If you've got nothing but this job, it's actually pretty simple, just an extra form.. if you've got other stuff going on, it would behoove you to get some professional advice

I think we get an extra 60 or 90 days to file past the April 15th deadline

sigh....I will never know why people feel the need to be rude over every little thing on this board.

As I already stated in my original post, I am already planning to go to a tax professional for help with this. The problem is I have NO tax information from my employer. I have never received anything in Korea like the W-2 form we receive in the US. So, for those of you who have done this before, were you able to get information from your employer or did you just estimate to file your taxes? Also, which form did you use? Thanks.
