I have a question. I just finished a year contract on an E2 visa. I then went home (Canada) for one month to visit. If I want to get a new job, do I need all new documents or because Immigration has everything on file already (and last time I was in immigration they said I would not need to get new documents if I hadn't left for 3 months) then do I need new docs now or what? Am I going to have to get them solely for the MOE or am I off the hook and do not need them? Do I just need a new CRC? So confusing. If anyone can shed light it would be appreciated. I'm going to get a new job so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks guys. WWIDWD (what would i do without daves?) |

Unfortunately, if you left the country, I think that means you need new documents. You could have committed some heinous crime and turned into an evil English teacher. |

I've heard of the 3 month rule as well, but I think if you go with MOEs, you need new docs regardless of that rule.
Actually if you check the new rules it says:
- If a foreigner hands in a criminal record check which covers the whole home country's information for the visa issuance application, and comes to Korea after getting the conversation teacher(E-2) visa the criminal record check document is able to be omitted when the foreigner wants to move to another workplace through a new visa issuance application.(This includes the situation such as, visa issuance application made after the foreigner left Korea. But, if the time period from leaving date up to entrance date with the new E-2 visa is more than 3 months criminal record check is needed when alien registration application is made. )
Unfortunately not many schools or recruiters seem to know about this rule. |

Thanks 3DR I was going to ask for a link too. I believe you because I remember the rule was worded like that when I received the letter. Also, when I went to immigration to show them my renewed passport I asked and they told me the same thing. So theoretically if this is true and I'm 90% sure it is and from what I've read about the new MOE requirements, could I just get immigration to send me a copy of those documents so I could show them to the MOE? Wham Bam Thank you Mam (or Man if you will)! |

I found the link.

Surprisingly (or not really...), I called immigration this morning, and the person I spoke to was completely unaware of this rule, and told me in no uncertain terms that new documents were required. I then found this post, searched for the source, and called again. The next person I spoke to, explained this rule to me, and verified that this is the case. Guess I'll be rolling the dice come visa time |

It's incredible how immigration officers working at the same office have completely different understandings of immigration rules and regulations. This would make for an interesting article or letter to the editor. |

From what is on immigration site, as long as you dont spend more than 3 months out of the country, you wont need new documents. When you do go to immigration, take a copy of it to show them the regulation. But you might need them for MOE. They are 2 different agencies. |

Does anyone know how to get in touch with the MOE? Do they have a hotline number. If you are teaching in Seoul, would you contact SMOE? I have nothing better to do so I will call and find out what the deal is. |
