I tried to pre-order an iPhone 4S at a global Olleh store the other day but was told there will be a lengthy wait time (over 4 weeks), does anyone have any idea where I might be able to pick one up sooner? I don't mind paying a bit above the going rate...

Thanks!

Unless you pre-registered before the official launch day then you will have a long wait on your hands.

I was due to get my 16GB today but I changed my mind and decided I wanted a 32GB instead so I had to re-register my interest again. Now, I have no idea how long I need to wait for my 32GB. Could be end of December or early next year.

Doesn't matter so much to me as the contract on my 3GS isn't up until the end of this year.

Have you tested it out yet? I plan on going to see it tonight. Not sure if its really any better than the Iphone 4.

Probably isn't much better to be honest, apart from the camera and Siri (which seems a bit gimmicky to me), also it's faster, though I've never had any problems with the iPhone 4 in that respect.

I just need a smartphone that works in Korea, and I didn't want to sign up to a two year contract on a phone that was about to go out of date, if I already had an iPhone 4 that worked in Korea I probably wouldn't bother!

One thing I like about Apple is that they usually wait at least a year before they bring a new model out.

My girlfriend got an iPhone 4 at Olleh about three weeks ago and they told her it was the last one they had, I assume they'll be restocking though.

New models come out, but I wouldn't say old ones go out of date.

I have a 3GS and its still going strong. Other than taking self pictures, there really isn't anything a Iphone 4 or 4S user can do that I can't.

The retina display is enough to warrant an upgrade to the 4. In fact the 4 is so good that Apple can get away with basically just improving on the internals and most people are happy. I honestly can't wait to see what happens when developers take full advantage of the A5 in the 4s.

I preordered a week or so ago at the global store. They told me it would be early Dec. Not so bad, I don't think. But as far as I know, no one is getting them much sooner. I understood that the first shipment to Korea wouldn't be for about three more weeks.

That was from the global store.

How does Siri work in Korea? I'm assuming it doesn't. Which makes no sense for anyone to get the 4S over the 4.

Like I said before I was due to pick up a 4S white 16GB today but I cancelled it because I decided on the weekend that I would like a 32GB.

If you pre-ordered then how soon you can get it depends on your group number. I was in Group 12 but my girlfriend ordered later and is in Group 32. Have no idea what my new group is.

It works, you just can't ask it things like 'where is the nearest gas station?' because they haven't licensed that kind of info yet.

It will probably never work like that in Korea. When they do eventually localize Siri for Korea it will be for the Korean language of course. So you will need to speak Korean to it, with perfect pronunciation, to make it work.

Or you can use the English version but it won't be localized for Korea.

Disagree, it doesn't work like that AFAIK, the information isn't instrinsically linked to the language being used.

Think about it. How does your English question, 'where is a pork rib restaurant?' relate to the database for Korean daegi galbi places? It's voice recognition. Unless someone makes a bilingual database of places in Korea then your English questions can't relate to the Korean language names in the database.
