Yeah, they're not for everyone/lifestyle. And it's better to figure that out before you plunk down the cash. |

Interesting story here about the LG Digital IPAD (yea, it was actually called an IPAD)
http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/LG-demonstrates-wireless-Linux-Web-pad-at-CeBIT/
Released in 2001! 9 years before Apple's iPad!
It kind of brings into sharp relief how ridiculous all this litigation in the tech world is these days about patents and who's copying who.
I don't mind specific technological innovations being patented.....but trying to be the sole owner of a whole format sucks for the consumer. |

Does anyone have experience of the Xoom 2 (or the previous Xoom model)? Is it worth purchasing? I'm looking at buying that or the Toshiba Thrive. Are there any other models/makers that I should be looking at? How about any coming up for sale in the new year? |

No experience with the Xoom. I've got an Acer A500 and it mostly works just fine, minus some common Android issues and the stupid Hangeul keyboard crashing the heck out of the default browser (Dolphin HD is much more reliable.)
Anyway, I'd give it a month or so. By then we should see Ice Cream Sandwich on quite a few tablets. Acer claims it'll be on mine in January... |

If you can have someone send it to you from the states, or if you're going home over the holidays, I would keep an eye out on the Toshiba Thrive.
I've seen the 32GB version go for $299 on some sites (newegg) and the 8GB for $199 (newegg). Also I think Groupon Deals had the Thrive 16GB for $299. In each case the tablets sold out really fast. You just have to keep your eyes peeled.
I had my finger on the pulse for the Thrive (32GB - $299) but something about the chrome circle around the front camera turns me off. I would really like a Xoom and hope the price drops when the Xoom 2 is released. I'm also hesitating because I would like 3G access - I wish they sold more unlocked devices! |

I'm waiting on the Asus Transformer Prime with the keyboard dock. Wonder if I should sell my laptop if I get it. This 15" fhd laptop is a pain in the ass to carry to school and back since I walk 20 minutes one way. Been carrying it around in my duffle bag since it didn't fit in my 15" laptop bag. Maybe I should buy a bigger laptop bag..or a car. |

It depends on what you do with your laptop. If you type anything out longer than a paragraph, I wouldn't replace it with a tablet if I were you. On-screen keyboard is cool, but a pain to type anything of length on.
Edit: right, the one with the keyboard dock... Never mind |

So..never mind yes sell it or never mind no don't sell it? lol. If I do end up keeping it, I'll probably use it like a desktop. Just leave it at home and use it as my main home computer. The Asus keyboard dock has a usb port, so I can use it like a normal laptop away from home. |

Does anyone know the Korean release date for the Prime? I've tried looking this info up, but all I found was the US release date 12/19 |

I thought the release date was pushed earlier? Think it's supposed to be the 8th. I'm planning on having a friend preorder and send it to me. Haven't decided if I want it first. |

anandtech.com has a pretty comprehensive review of the Transformer Prime if you're interested. They said it is THE Android tablet to get right now. Its CPU kicks the iPad 2's CPU handily. The GPU still isn't as good as that inside the iPad 2, though. |

I'll probably wait until the ICS update rolls out. Chances are, the Prime won't be available in Korea before then anyway.
So far all of the reviews I've read agree that it's a great piece of hardware that's severely limited by the software (*cough*android*cough*). |

anandtech noted it has problems with wifi and it seems it's not an isolated case. I was looking at the transformer prime as well. should probably hold out until things get worked out
