| Thanks WT but once again what you quoted takes AWAY from your point rather than support it! Crap did you even read and understand that Korean text you just posted???? |
Really? The opposite, man.

Here is the translation:
Objective: Learn English and have fun!
Age: 20-30 year olds
Curriculum: Vocabulary, grammar, expressions and pronounciation increase!
Meeting Destinations: Coffee Shops and Tea Shops in Seoul;
(Shin Chon, Young Deung Po (Times Square), JongGak, GangNam,)
Fee: 10,000 won per hour
My background:
Hi! I am from America and graduated from UC Berkeley. I have taught in Korea for two years. When you want to learn, you do learn the most when you are having fun! Thus, I would like to gain more experience in
teaching adults by making a curriculum where people can become more interactive so that they can gain confidence and have fun!
If interested, please email me back with:
1) Name & Age
2) Goals
3) Location Preference: ShinChon/ Times Square/ Jong Gak /Gangnam
4) Time availability on Sundays.
5) Any questions? |
Actually, aside from that, you had an interesting response, and I am
wondering: what is the going rate is F-visa holders? Has it dropped some for them too? At well over 30,000 won per hour, that is good money IMO. |
It appears to me that the guy is simply offering a much lower than average rate as a way of enticing more students in order to gain more teaching experience with a curriculum he is putting together. So, his first aim is not to make money. Further, based on what I know, the starting rate for English lessons is still 35,000 Won. |

OK, I guess the rate for English is slightly higher then.
(Although the most recent ad for Korean tutoring I clicked on said:

| I offer you 35,000W for one hour lesson and 50,000W for one and a half hour lesson. |
...but English tutoring is illegal (and a visa violation) for those without an F-visa. That is the big difference.
Anyways, thanks for your response.
It's just that I rarely see ads for private tutoring for the Korean language for 20,000 won per hour anymore. Education is expensive in this country! Heck, I knew a girl who taught flute lessons for 50,000 won per hour. |

So that is the going rate then you think?
I am thinking of paying someone to tutor Korean to me.
I think I'll try to cap the amount I'm willing to pay at 25K. Shelling out 30K or more per hour is just too painful.
But it's worth it? Are you making good progress?
I suppose learning Korean should be seen as an investment. (An investment which requires financial sacrifices.) |

I am fairly certain that 25,000 per hour is the going rate for Korean lessons. Also, you can effectively get a much cheaper rate by taking night classes at Sogang University which charges 700,000 Won for 60 hours of instruction. |
