I want to cut down on drinking and going out to bars etc as I am saving money and there are only so many books and movies one can watch...

A friend suggested getting a gaming console. Sounds like a plan!

I saw ps3's and ps2's today and whilst the ps3 is obvioulsy better, it costs more and the games are like 50k compared to 15k or 20k for ps2 games.

So the ps2 looks the better option and would be fine for me, I've played them before and they seemed fine.

How much should I pay for one either new or decent condition 2nd hand?

I heard also you can get a Nintendo 64 for like 80k with a controller nowadys... Is that new? Nintendo 64 would be just fien for me too.

Also is it worth gettin a 'chipped' one with lots of chipped games in the memory like you can at yongsan or just buy the games new or 2nd hand instead when i see them?

Also can my monitor be used with one - it is an esys ex1901w lcd monitor

http://pondicherrycity.olx.in/lcd-19-crt-19-iid-35197409

Can a nintendo ds or psp be hooked up to the monitor too? That would be cool as portable and home use.

Thanks.

Oh if anyone has any for sale, let me know also!

the ps2 has a ridiculous gaming library behind it...easily enough to last you awhile. you can get a modded one at yongsan for cheap, though not sure how much these days. that'll let you burn your own games on dvds.

don't get an n64. no amount of nostalgia, etc.

a psp can be hooked up to the tv, but I wouldn't recommend it. it's pretty awful. get a ps2 or ps3.

no idea w/r/t the monitor.

Yeah a ps2 is looking like the way to go cheers.

Anyone know how much to pay for a new one in Korea or a second hand American or Korean one?

Thanks.

Got a PS3 with about 100 games on my PS3 HDD and an external HDD. If you are a casual gamer then the PS2 is fine but if you really want to immerse yourself in it then I recommend reading about on some gaming forums. Both the xbox360 and ps3 have the ability to play pirated games, which is basically why you are buying the ps2 right?

I found out that the ps2 won't be compatible with my lcd monitor which only has vga, dvi/d in and ac in slots.

My laptop does have s-video, which the ps2 has also, so could I hook it up to my laptop and use my laptop screen to play games on? Or could I hook it up to the laptop, with the monitor hooked up to the laptop also via vga cable and then use the dual screen function in display setting to have the monitor show the playstation window. For example, sometimes I watch a movie on the monitor and can still play poker or write emails etc on the laptop screen....

Another option is I have a dvd player that has componant and composite holes, as well as vga, so could I hook the playstation 2 up to the dvd player through componant / composite and hook the monitor up to the dvd player too through vga and somehow thus play the games on the monitor wired through the dvd player?

Nope. You will have to buy a separate monitor. Try selling your current one here and then buying a new screen online.

What are the specs on your PC?

Unless it is a dinosaur you will be able to play all the N64, PS1, SNES, XBOX, NES and Genesis games on emulators. If you have a newer PC, you will be able to emulate PS2 as well.

Not only is it free, but you wont have any problems getting it to display on your monitor.

If I download the emulator - will the games be THE SAME IN TERMS OF GRAPHICS, PLAYABILITY ETC? I mean literally as good as on the console?

Also can you hook a ps2 controller up to your laptop?

My laptop specs -

Wiki says 3ghz or up cpu plus 3gb ram is best for true emulation.

Meh, I'll go buy a cheap tv at the 2nd hand store and a 2nd hand ps2. Saves messing about.

You would be able to emulate NES, SNES, Genesis, N64 and PS1 w/o any problems with that setup. You would not be able to play PS2 games though.

Games play better than console quality IMO, all the emulators all allow save files at any point.

As far as the controller goes, you can buy a USB controller that looks exactly like a PS2 one for 10 bucks at most stores.

So I could play PS1 games and they'd be as good as console quality on my laptop with a controller that would hook up via usb and work with both the emulators and games?

Man if I can do that, I'll do that. So I'd buy the ps1 game disks and put them in the laptop dvd drive? Someone said you can get them for free, how does that work? I tried downloading pc games and that was a pita with all the cracks and codes etc.

Another option is I found a store and for 65k the guy has a coble / gender convertor (ooer) that will allow me to plug the ps2 cables into it and hook it up via VGA to my current monitor.

I've found a ps2 for 50k 2nd hand, plus the 65k, not a bad deal. Then the local store had game sfor 15k.

So it seems my options are ps1 emulator (probably be good enough for me IF I CAN download the games easily or just buy them and put them in the laptop dvd drive) - Or the ps2 with the convertor thingy and not have to buy new monitor or use my laptop (worried about damaging it...)

What would you guys do?

My budget = 150k max.

ePSXe is the name of the emulator that you want.

Almost all of the popular/semi-popular games for it can be found on major torrent sites. or use www.torrentz.eu for a complete search of all the major open torrent sites.

After you setup your emulator, which is easily done by following the directions, you just download the games, unpack the zip file and play.

Okay, I think I'll give that a go tonight and try out a game just using the mouse / keypad and if they seem playable, go and buy usb controller lol.

Ha ha, fun! Just been playing crash bandicoot with my keyboard keys on the laptop.

Downloaded pcxs-r and played it through that. epsxe downloaded but couldn't get it to play any game downloads for whatever reason.

Now I'm going to try some other downloads (but the seeder reccomends epsxe) and see if they will run through pcxs-r.

If they wont, and I can't figure epsxe out, then I'll just stick to the pcxs-r and buy some games from the local store and run them through it as they're only 10k - 15k each. Will get a usb controller too!

Guess I might as well down load a few otrher emulators that will run on my laptop as well and havemore games!

Man so many freebies out there these days, it's nuts...
