|
|
My recruiter has informed me that EPIK requires from all entry level applicants (level 3 on pay scale) to have a TEFL course completed by January. I just found out today. Can anyone else confirm this? Upon viewing EPIK's website it appears that only a Bachelor's degree is required. |

The letter my recruiter sent me when I passed the EPIK interview said I needed:
"Copy of TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certification or proof of enrollment " (at least a 100 hour course.)
so I'm gonna enroll in a cheap 100 hour on-line course very soon and at least 'get the ball rolling' on that ... in between the 3 jobs I work 7 days a week that I got thru temp agencies , that don't pay any health care ... but hey, what ever I gotta do at this point ... just waiting on my FBI CBC.
I was told I'd be a level 1 on pay scale, btw - but I've never taught ESL, so I figure I should learn some useful stuff before I go ... guess I'll cram as much of those 100 hours in , as I can, during my Xmas break from substitute teaching. |

I hear if you want Busan you will need to show a sample class.

Anyone know what percentage of TESOL cert holders there are for EPIK or SMOE?
I thought everyone was required to have it now? |

My understanding is more than 100 hours TESOL certificate or just have teaching experience. If you've taught for a year or more in Korea or elsewhere that should be good enough. |

You will need to provide a sample lesson plan, I do believe. |

I've been told that now a degree in English/Education OR at least one year of teaching experience OR a 100-Hour TESOL certificate is required. |

Lots of applicants (more than enough economic refugees from the States) so they can afford to bump up the minimum requirements for job seekers.
It is not like it was 5 years ago when they would take any warm body with a degree and a pulse and then started the TaLK program because they still couldn't get enough warm bodies with a degree so they dropped the standard to 2 years of college/university.

This is what I'm hearing as well. Even for the teachers who's been teaching in my district and without TESOL/TEFL cert are told that they are considering not renewing them. I guess they want to replace the unqualifieds with qualifieds. |
