I don't know much about Incheon per se, but I really like the China Town area --some people don't like it because it's not "authentic" enough or whatever, but it is what it is, take it or leave it. I've always enjoyed the food I've gotten there.

Also, there's a small park with some nice views and a MacArthur statue up above the China Town area
Also, there's a seaside boardwalk area with lots of amusements and restaurants and shops nearby...can't remember what it's called offhand, but you should be able to figure it out.

City type: Industrial
People type: Industrial
Museums: None
English Bookstores: None
Parks: One major park, nothing special
Restaurants: Nothing worth mentioning
Decent Bars: Only one worth mentioning: O'Malley's
Best Incheon thing: Close to civilization (i.e. Seoul)
Worst Incheon thing: No Costco

New to tefl, can't find the faqs and don't have the time to just sift back through the last 5 pages but you have time to go to Korea for a year?

If you don't have time to look back then you certainly don't have time to get on a plane.

Dave's can be an excellent resource. But Google is a lot quicker.

Incheon is nice enough. If you want to live the super cool hipster awesome backpacker blogger life then go for Seoul.

But I lived in Incheon for 3 years. Seoul is there if you want it at the weekends. It can take between 1-2 hours to get there but the price of public transport is dirt cheap.

There are lots of good bars in Incheon. Bupyeong is a good night out. There's also Arts Centre. Yeonsu Dong is a bit small but has some nice restaurants.

There's certainly enough in Incheon to keep you entertained for the year. Just remember Korea isn't just Seoul. You are allowed to get out and explore.

Recently a lot of attractive ladies I meet in Seoul live in Incheon, Bucheon, or there abouts.

Must be something in the water over there....

Having lived in Incheon for almost 15 years I have to disagree:
City type: Industrial, tourist and IT
People type: Mixed...many live hear and work in Seoul
Museums: at least a half dozen that I have been to
English Bookstores: 3 or 4
Parks: 3 or 4 major parks, Central Park in Song Do is a doozy
Restaurants: Lots of Indian and Chinese, plus all the big chains...and Whats Davids
Decent Bars: Can't really count...O'Malley's is new, Whats Davids is good
Best Incheon thing: Close to civilization , has airport, near GangHwa
Worst Incheon thing: No Costco

Thanks for the information mate! 15 years is along time! Dont suppose you could point in the way of a decent gym or no of any casual football (soccer) teams that meet for a kick around?

I lived in Incheon for a year and liked it just fine. The one great thing about Incheon that no one mentioned is access to the Yellow Sea Islands that you can reach by ferry from near Dong Incheon Station. The beaches of Deokjeokdo, Jawoldo, and more are an easy and cheap weekend getaway in the summer.

Incheon has a Sunday football League team. They play their games in the Seoul Sunday Football League, and they're always happy to try out new players. The team also frequent the aforementioned O'malleys pub, and it's a great way for a newbie to meet people. I used to play for them a few years back, and still see a lot of the guys quite regularly. If you PM me, I'll send you the email address of the guy that runs it.

There's a gym in almost every neighbourhood, although the quality can vary massively. Once you've been here a while, you'll be able to source a few local footie games - ask your co-workers, or any foreigners you meet, and they'll point you in the right direction.

There is the Inchon City Museum and off and on exhibitions at the Art Center. There are other smaller galleries and showings around town.
There are not one but TWO foriegn language bookstores in town.
There is Inchon Grand Park and Central Park along with several small parks.
There are many half decent restaurants around Inchon. There the new Indian one, a Turkmenestan restaurnant, and all the run of the mill Korean places. [/b]
