I have been reading the post here for a couple of months now and most seem to indicate that its tough to find a job if you are:

>gyopo - I will get a F4 visa once in Korea and I have read that it can be an advantage as well. More info on that would be much appreciated.

>not good looking - I am not too ugly...just a noticeably broken nose and a few facial scars (doesn't look like I been in an accident or anything like that...just looks like I been in a few altercations), physically in very good condition...I know that Koreans like that clean cut look...so I think I can go to a professional photographer for the resume picture.

>looking only in Seoul - I am really open to all places, though Busan and Jeju areas would be preferred

So...if one were a male, gyopo with F4, almost 40...but:

>were not picky about the location
>would already be in Korea
>Have apostille diploma
>CBC would be on the way
>no experience as a English teacher but do have a few years experience teaching martial arts to children and adults

What are my prospects for employment in January with feet on the ground?
Where would be the best place to start? I have cousins in Seoul so I think there would be a good start but I read it is the most competitive though.
Would knocking on doors be a good idea?
Any good recruiter for those already in Korea?
Where in Seoul, Busan or Jeju do English teachers hang out?
Are the English teacher job market as bad as the posters here are saying?
What would be the minimum compensation that would be reasonable?

I really would appreciate any input, recommendations and words of wisdom, especially from gyopos.

If you have a degree, clean FBI check and are on the ground it is not that hard to find a job, even for a 40 year old gyopo (easy for a hagwan since you meet the E2 requirements and don't need a visa or airfare).

Hard to find a perfect job, yes, but a basic job, no.

If you don't have a degree and clean CRC (can't be registered as a teacher at the POE) then all bets are off after the new MOE rules come into effect and begin to be enforced.

I do have a BS and working on getting it apostelled so that should not be a problem. I am pretty sure I have a clean CRC but won't have it in hand until end of January. Would I be able to still get a job about a month before I get it. I read on the forum that it was really required for the E2 visa application. From what I could gather from the previous posts, it is technically required but not really enforced for F4 visa holders. Anymore info in the CRC would be much appreciated.

Yeah, that is the gist of the posts that I have been reading. Where would you recommend I start once I get to Korea? What do you think are pretty decent small cities are, preferably near Busan for Jeju?

What are the minimum acceptable compensation?

Does anyone know about temporary accommodations in the smaller cities while looking for a job? Would it just be easier to commute from Seoul? What about Busan and Jeju?
