But yeah if some ladies like them they should go for it. The main point being for a straight western women in Korea the dating option are less than for a straight western man."
99 is bold, but I feel ya.
Some people want to be PC and some want to be defensive.
Mad, mad world. |
Well if I wanted to be totally PC I should become a really opened minded bisexual and sleep with everyone - why discriminate.
I said some because I haven't talked to all of my female friends about the subject but the 99% I spoke too weren't keen. To say "most" of my female friends wouldn't be accurate because I haven't talked to 99% of them about it. If you prefer I say "most" and just refer to the friends I have talked to about the subject at hand, that is fair enough.
I did have one friend who went to a "Film and TV studies seminar" at BFI and there was a lady presenting a paper on the "Under representation of Asian men in porn". I wasn't at the seminar myself and my friend didn't go to that particular panel so she couldn't report back on what it was about. |
Unless you have at least 100 straight female friends in Korea that you've asked, you're pulling that number out of your hoo ha. It's math, not semantics. |
I'm not pulling anything out of anything. I've never claimed it representative of all women - I just said it was representative of what my female friends said. If you don't like that, as I said you need to take it up with them. |

I never said you are claiming that you represent all women. I'm saying that you would have to have asked at least 100 people to get that number. Did you?
Allow me to explain basic math. Unless you have at least 100 straight female friends here, it is impossible for 99% of them to have that viewpoint. If you have any number smaller than 100, it wouldn't be possible. Understand? It's math. The only way I could see a possible loophole would be some really fat friends that would make them count as more than one person. If that's the case, then I concede.
Anyway, sweet dreams. It's bedtime. |

I think some Western women are not attracted to Asian men for the reason that they do not seem "manly." What I mean by this is (from what I've seen) Asian men are more likely to be pretty boys. I also know a lot of Asian men who are fed up with dating Asian women because they are overly demanding and clingy or have had bad experiences with them. It's all a matter of personal preference. Honestly, I think pretty much everyone's chance is equal if the people in question are open minded.
As for me, I think Asian men can be attractive, but I do not pick a boyfriend based on race. Personality, chemistry, attractiveness all play a part obviously. Also, being "sloppy" is not the same as a "manly" woman. There are tomboys, and then there are girls who don't give a crap about their appearance. I don't usually wear makeup unless I'm going out for a special event or something- and when I do I usually only do sunscreen/eye makeup/lip color. But I've also been told that I'm naturally pretty and don't need the enhancement. So whether that is laddish/manly is up to you. Also, I tend to wear lots of dresses or nice tops with tight jeans and heels even if my hair and face are not made up. Soooo yeah.
I'll find out what it's like when I actually get to Korea. |

Ribena's "99%" seems wildly exaggerated, as not even in the bad old days when Asian men were likely to be associated with poverty, anti-American Communism, or Long Duk Dong was it that bad. A surprising number of Hapas my age have Asian fathers, meaning that somehow against all odds, much-maligned Asian men married white women about 20-30 years ago.
It's a generational thing as well, I think. Asian guys my age and younger seem to be able to fight back against unfavourable stereotypes quite readily. Sure, it'd be easier if they were white, but it's not a crippling setback. |

That might hold true in Korea, but Asian-American guys are no likelier to be pretty boys than non-Asian-American guys. Moreover, a lot of white women seem to like pretty boys, from young Leonardo DiCaprio to the stereotypical European metrosexual.
Yet there still is some level of racial bias against Asian guys. It's a status thing. If races were jobs, then being Asian would be like being in retail. Or in some really discriminatory places, a fast food job. Something in the lower levels. And you can never ever get promoted. |

I think everyone knows that she didn't literally mean 99 out of 100 people.
And, I think 'most people' know the different reasons why 'most' foreign women don't find Asian men attractive. If you have to defend this because you take offense to those accusations, or just like to argue (gal from big city with too much time on her hands), that is definitely your prerogative. Concessions?
I don't particularly find Asian women attractive. I think that 'most' men do. |

Except you can have a percentage of a number less 100. Enough with the fat jokes. Do you have a point except nitpick on percentages. Why does it offend you so that my friends don't find Asian men attractive. As I've said several times, you need to take it up with them. |

You can have a percentage of a number less than 100. Just not 99%. Here's an example: if you'd said 98%, it could have been 49 out of 50 friends. If you'd said 95%, it could have been 19 out of 20 friends. See how this works?
Again, I don't care what your friends find attractive. I care that you don't understand a basic mathematical concept. |

What I'm saying is that being an Asian guy is kind of like being a guy with a crappy job. |

You are spending alot of time discussing things you don't care about. You went on about this subject well before your brought maths into it. |

| So are you actually legally married now, NY Gal? Cause it would be pretty damn weird for the person who always refers to her boyfriend as "my husband" to pick on other people for exaggerating a little. |
