| Alright so I just go to our local pharmacy and say birth control chuseyo? Will they understand "the pill"? I'm slightly concerned because I heard this is generally considered a very private matter. |

| Other people said it was over the counter, no prescription. In other words can my general practicioner do this, do I need to go to a gynecologist like others have said? Obviously I know how I would go about this in America but I'm not IN america... |

The cheaper older types of birth control pills are over the counter. The newer more expensive ones which are supposed to help your skin, increase the chance of blood clots and so on are not.
I have no idea how to actually ask for them. The best solution would probably be to get the name of a brand and write it down. |

If you had read them you'd notice they're all contradicting each other and talking about specific kinds. Also no one is talking about how to ask for it and I still don't know if my wife can go to the pharmacy and ask or if that would be an embarrassing experience where they all hide their faces likes school children. I don't need a special brand but if there is something dangerous or less effective then I need to know that as it's important to our entire lives and well being. So I apologize if I separate my question so it is thoroughly answered and I can ask all my concerns without mixing them with other people's, but this is a more complex issue then you eye rolling condescending pricks would like to believe. Those trying to help are greatly appreciated. |

If you aren't looking for a specific brand than I recommend Mercilon. You can get it over the counter at any pharmacy and it's not as harsh as I hear some Korean brands are. It's more of a mini pill, I guess. I use it and have experienced no problems.
As for asking for it, you can probably just say "Merceelun juseyo". However, at the pharmacy I go to (my local HomePlus) the man speaks English.
If you are worried about how the pharmacist will react just go with your wife and wear your rings (if you have them). There will be no negative reaction if they realize it is for a married couple. I go by myself and have never had a problem.

피임 is simply 'birth control,' contraceptive pill is 피임약.
A morning-after pill is 사후피임약, literally 'ex-post contraceptive pill' |

Depends on the brand / type.
Take your box / package to the pharmacy and if it is one of the OTC types they will just match the dose and sell it to you. Cost is about 6-10k won.
If it is one of the few that require a prescription they will let you know and MAY sell you one till you can see a Dr.

I wouldn't worry about this. My experience is that Korean healthcare workers and Koreans in general are not very sensitive about these types of things. I've bought birth control for my girlfriend at the pharmacy in Emart. Noone cares. This is in a big city so you might have a different experience if it's in a tiny village with one pharmacist who knows everyone.
Don't tolerate judgement from healthcare workers, just as you wouldn't back home. Most do not question or judge so if one does, you found a bad one and just change doctors or pharmacies.
At the same time don't expect the same level of confidentiality you would back home. The pharmacist might just shout "I need one morning after pill with a side of valtrex" to his associate in the back of the shop with a lobby full of customers. |

It sounds to me like ou want dave's to advise you on which pill is best. I'd say if it's that important to your ENTIRE LIVES and well-being then you might like to have a consultation with a DOCTOR. |

This is very true. Years ago I went into a pharmacy asking for 'Muh-shi-long' --Mercilon--and the pharmacist lady broke out in pelvic thrusts repeating the words BABY SHOCK! BABY SHOCK! 
Advice edit: Pay the 5,000won at a clinic and see a doctor to percribe you a birth control pill. They can screw up your hormones and who knows what else; better to get a (semi-)profressional opinion at least. |

Yes but if the concern is that korean birth control pills aren't as good or as safe then asking the korean doctor who doesn't have a problem with them would be a little self defeating.
We'll head to my general practicioner tomorrow, and show him the symbol for it, hopefully we'll have a supply tomorrow. |

Most pills available here are not Korean that I've seen. They tend to be European brands.
A doctor can advise you best. I'd say Dr. Sung in Hannam would be your best bet. I'm not sure why you'd go to GP and not a OBGYN for this, especially since I've never met a GP here.
Dr. Sung speaks English and should be able to fully inform you and address all your concerns. |
