|
|
So I had a job lined up, but the start date changed a bit, I tried to make that work but it ultimately was too early for me. So I backed out of the job a bit late (they still had well over a month to find someone else, it wasn't the last POSSIBLE minute).
My recruiter was pretty miffed but was still willing to find me another job when I got my background check. I told him when I got the check back, but I was offered a perfect position from a different recruiter right after that, which I am taking and have sent in my docs for.
He is threatening now to put me on a recruiter's blacklist for my offensive and deceptive behavior. Does such a list exist? I suspect he is full of sh*t (he normally is), but I wanted to confirm my suspicions, just in case. |

The only blacklist is in his mind.
a) they are illegal (but often happen amongst hagwan associations).
b) recruiters are like used car salesmen. If you burn me I will threaten you with hellfire but the guy on the lot next door won't care if he can get a commission by selling you to the next school.

haha. Good point about money being the final determining factor in other recruiters' hands. Thanks for that. And good to know that they are illegal... |

Recruiters black list? Is he serious? Does he understand that recruiters get paid to recruit teachers? submit your resume to other recruiting agencies or websites and test the validity of this "black list". |

you can always tell us which recruiter you used so we can "know" to avoid them. I think the foriegners collectively avoiding a recruiter will hurt them a hell of a lot more than anything they can do to you. |

Yeah, fair enough. O_O This was Ben at GMSC, and after Googling his name I see that I'm not the first to have problems with him, and others have had worse from him. I think was offering me a good position, but he was far too pushy and seemed not entirely honest. For example, he spent quite a lot of time and energy trying to talk me out of the cities I wanted to go to (because I had connections there), saying that my friends there were probably busy with their own lives and hanging out with Korean girls and wouldn't have time to hang out with me, so I might as well go where he wanted me to go.
And I got tired of him brandishing me every time I didn't do something he liked. He wasn't the worst in the world, but I definitely wouldn't work with him again.
I can't find a recruiter blacklist that is still being managed, so if anyone knows one let me know! |

Recruiters probably get upset and say things, but at the end of the day they need you.

Thanks for the reassurance y'all.
Got my plane ticket and will be in Korea next month, so that kind of rectifies the situation as well. haha. |

Yes they can, and they do.
There is a blacklist, possibly several. |

Only with the schools they recruit for. There is NO Master Blacklist that all the recruiters are privy to. |

Actually all they can effectively do is refuse to work with you and ban you with other recruiters in their own company.
Outside of that, if you apply with a different recruiter, they (former recruiter) have zero to say and frankly speaking that other recruiter you use wants to make the placement fee so why would he or she turn you down?
Seriously now... |
