Is it possible to go to the Labor Board and get a contract declared null and void due to major breaches of contract, negating the need for a Letter of Release?

Can they declare it null and void = no, not in the strictest legal sense.

Can they get you released from it without legal repercussion against you and negating the need for a LOR = yes.
