| Or are you making the total BS claim that you are paid in advance an entire month for teaching at your school? |
No, not eureka. I do (work), then I get paid . Go back to the drawing board.
P.S. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH AIRFARE? You throwing out a red herring? |
You advised us that an individual is a slave if they work with the promise to get paid later. Yet, you work an entire month with the promise that your boss pays you at the end of the month. You are a slave according to your own advice.
You still don't get it do you? (Pssst. This is why your advice is terrible. You can't even follow it yourself.) |

No, I arrive in Korea. I have satisfied my obligation. I should be compensated then.
A slave is never compensated.
Tell me, will the original poster be compensated?

I don't need to follow my sound advice. I do it. If you want to be a follower, then you need to. As I said before, I don't care. I didn't lose out. It's not my advice, it's common sense. |

You continue to not make any sense.
Here is the order of your plan.
You and your boss agree that you will be paid for your ticket upon arrival.
You buy a ticket. (this is where you spend your own money under the promise to be paid back later)
You get on the plane.
You land.
Now comes the tricky part. One of two things can happen.
A) You get paid back. I agree that this is a good idea to follow. But it really isn't up to you when your boss pays you back. That is something that is ultimately up to him. He can decide to pay you back like you agreed orginally, or he can drag his feet. Which brings us to possibility B.
B)The boss doesn't pay you back, then you don't go to work (or work for a half day). And then the boss might just fire you and you will never see a dime for airfare and are now out a round abouts $1000....great strategy!

I'm sorry. I can't make any sense out of this entire paragraph. It is not common sense, it is nonsense! |

The hagwon can pay me or wait till the next teacher. At some point, they will have to pay airfare until someone decides to work for free.
If there is someone that does then, "It is not common sense, it is nonsense!" |

But you'd be ok with being out the one grand?
Equally nonsensical. |

Putting me in an undesirable situation doesn't mean I would like, be ok with, or prefer it.
I am not the original poster. I would never be out one grand if I felt I was owed it. |

Ever have a job back home? Ever have a teaching job back home?
You get paid at the end of the month or start of the new month. They don't hand you a month's salary the first day you start your job.
So by your logic every worker is a slave. |

Let me bring you up to speed. We were talking about airfare, not salary compensation which labor board would address. I would not start teaching until I was compensated for the airfare. Did you really miss that or are you looking for anything to misconstrue? |

You describe a story that you are experiencing in which you do not work because you aren't getting paid. Then you say don't teach under a promise. Yet, every month, you teach under a promise.
Therefore you lie when you say you were talking only about airfare. Nice attempt at weaseling though. |

No, I am describing a situation in which I am getting paid, but they want me to do something extra without compensation.

I do teach under a promise.

I was commenting based on airfare, not on working. If the thread revolved around working, then I would have meant working.
I would not work until I was compensated for the airfare. After you arrive, you have fulfilled that obligation. That would be like working one month, fulfilling that obligation and not being compensated. Do you get it now or do you need charts?

I think the more appropriate solution would be for you to stop making outlandish, ridiculous, and/or false statements. Then you wouldn't need to back track on them. |

Where did I say I wouldn't teach a month before I got paid for that month? Put me to shame and show me. I was talking about airfare compensation before teaching. This was not understood clearly and instead of accepting it and moving on, you feel a need to twist my words to make it look like I intended on it meaning I wouldn't teach without being paid for those teaching days in advance.
I don't know if you are bored, if you enjoy this, or whatever the situation is. It's not how I spend my time, so I don't understand your motives in doing this.
Intelligent people can scroll back and see where the confusion might have occurred and they can see where it was clarified. You are on your own to accept it or reject it. I don't really care.
If you reject and work after not being compensated for airfare, you only have yourself to blame. I wouldn't work until I was compensated.
Get a new hobby jrwhite82, you aren't making friends with this kind of behavior/attitude. |

More trolling from koreatimes. Much like the newspaper, he is filled with rhetoric and inaccurate information.
By contract, he's owed the airfare, there's really no room for interpretation. The thing he signed MAY be a problem in courts, although without a signed English translation (every contract I know of is in English), I don't feel the school has much of a case.
Now morally, SHOULD the OP go after it? Depends. Sounds like he was in a tough spot earlier, but he's doing well now. I don't know the pay difference between the 2 jobs, but if it's enough to cover airfare (both to and from), then it might be worth it to let it go.
Personally, I would ask for 1/6th of the airfare, as you will have to pay for the rest of it. If he refuses, tell him you'll go to court for the full amount and make good on that threat (and if you go to court, get proof that you offered to take less). The situation could be worse, but at least you're financially sound now. |

I don't know how it is trolling. I stated my opinion. Your reply really had nothing to do with mine, and it seems like just an attack before you presented your opinion.
I don't feel you were trolling. I would do the same if I were the original poster, but I doubt legal measures will bring in enough money to compensate him for all the trouble it's worth. It's basically a lost cause. That's why I would collect on the airfare before working. |
