Hello all, I'm hoping to get some clarification on an issue. I recently got married to a Korean. I applied for the F-2-1 visa with all the appropriate paperwork from both of us. This was in late September. I have not heard anything from immigration about the visa status. Is this normal? How long does it usually take?

I know in the past it was a speedier process and the laws have changed since then. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Next week will be 8 full weeks since I submitted the application. I have called immigration twice about it and both times they said they cannot check and that I just have to wait. It seems odd that they can't tell me ANYTHING about my status.

Anyway, any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. I'm itching to get the visa and get back to work. Thanks!!

When I applied for mine in February it took the full 8 weeks. I had my wife call and got the same response that they couldn't look it up. Be patient it will arrive and then the benefits will follow Cool .

Thanks! Yeah, I'm just tired of being patient, I guess. I've heard different time periods from different people. I suppose there is no rhyme nor reason for it. I'm hanging in there. Everyday I say, "Not too much longer now."

It took mine about 5 weeks. (I applied in August.) However, you applied right in the middle of wedding season, which probably slowed things down a bit.

Also, I know several people who are trying to switch over to F-2's in order to avoid some of the imminent E-2 regulations we've been hearing about these days.

It may all be in vain, though. Alas.

I got mine today. My wife found a way to check on the hiexpat/seoul immigration site. It said the process was finished and approved. I went to Immi, got my ticket, walked to the counter with the receipt, and was haded my card. I was in and out in 20 seconds. Best. Immigration. Trip.Ever.
