Here is the lowdown on Incheon:

City type: Industrial
People type: Mixed bag, like anywhere. I liken it to Brooklyn, NY.
Museums: None I've been to several museums in Seoul. For the most part, they were laughable.
English Bookstores: 3 come to mind, but there might be more (though a Kindle is much better)
Parks: One major park, nothing special There are a few smaller ones to which I take my dog for walks. I wish that we had something like back home, though.
Restaurants: A handful of nice ones in Art Center and Bupyeong
Decent Bars: Only one worth mentioning: O'Malley's Rios is also good
Best Incheon thing: Close to civilization (i.e. Seoul) Yet also far enough from Seoul for a bit more peace
Worst Incheon thing: No Costco

I've changed some of FDNY's answers. My changes are in bold.

The only thing I have to say that might be a big con is that the woman that you'll have to deal with at the Incheon Met. Office of Education is a horrible woman. She's really one of the worst people I've dealt with, and I've had some demanding bosses back home.

Having lived in Incheon for almost 15 years I have to disagree:
City type: Industrial, tourist and IT
People type: Mixed...many live hear and work in Seoul
Museums: at least a half dozen that I have been to
English Bookstores: 3 or 4
Parks: 3 or 4 major parks, Central Park in Song Do is a doozy
Restaurants: Lots of Indian and Chinese, plus all the big chains...and Whats Davids
Decent Bars: Can't really count...O'Malley's is new, Whats Davids is good
Best Incheon thing: Close to civilization , has airport, near GangHwa
Worst Incheon thing: No Costco

I would LOVE to be proven wrong here. It would happily shut me up about how much Incheon sucks. And I've been here Since 1996.

Museums? Six? Please list.
English Bookstores? Please tell just one. That would be awesome.
Chinese???? Hahahaha I still don't buy that one.
Bars? Only ONE with decent draft beer. I mean real beer. Not Korean swill.

I lived in Incheon. They have several express buses if you crave Seoul, Wolmido (where MacArthur landed), Bupyeong, as well as some quiet mountainous areas (Gyeyang). If you want more details, GOOGLE is your friend Smile

I've lived in Incheon for 6 months in Yeonsu-gu. Yeonsu-gu is a pretty cool place, but there are some crummy parts of the city as well.

For larger museums, there are the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum and the Incheon World Ceramic Center. There's also Art Center, which has plenty of different exhibitions throughout the year. Are they the best museums I've even visited? No. Nor are those in Seoul. I've been spoiled by having so many amazing museums within a stone's throw from Central Park at home.

As for bookstores, I don't recall the names, but one is in Bupyeong (I went there my second week living here, but later had an e-reader so didn't go back) and there's another one near the Homeplus/CGV in Art Center. I've gone there a few times to pick up children's books, but they have a decent selection, if you don't have an e-reader. Honestly, why would you not get a kindle or nook if you live abroad? It's so easy and cheap to get books. I think that the amount of bookstores is a moot point, nowadays, especially since What The Book delivers.

Chinese? No idea. I only know of one decent (and still not great) Chinese restaurant in Seoul. I've heard rumors of another, but come on. The possibility of 2 "Chinese" restaurants makes someplace superior?

I can't really argue when it comes to bars, but Rio's is decent if you drink bottled beer or mixed drinks. He's an awesome guy, too. Going out to bars really isn't my scene, though.

Why am I still up? Ugh. I shouldn't have had that tea at 10pm.

EDIT: Also, Kyobo bookstore in Itto Tower in Art Center has an English section.

Museums: off the top of my head There is the War Museum in Song Do, The Korean History Museum next to it. There is the Folk Museum in Wol Mi Do, Tri Bowl/Tomorrow City in Song Do, The Statue Park in Gang Hwa, The Fort in Gan Hwa, and that is without any research

Bookstore: English Bridge in Song Do and Guol Dong, Kim and Johnsons, Kyobo Books in Guol Dong.

Chinese: There is a real place beside the old Incheon U campus, and a few in Dong Incheon run by actual immigrants

Bars with beer on tap: Goose Goose has Guinness, What's Davids has Guiness and Kilkenny on tap, what more could you want?
I mean, I don't go out much and I know of two places right off. I am pretty sure there is another out in Kye Yang, called Number 10 or something.

FDNY did you previously post on this forum using the name Sancho Panza?

He also could not find anything decent to say about Incheon.

you guys are funny.
we all know that i could drop any of you basically anywhere in any reasonably sized city in korea and you couldn't tell me if it was seoul or not. it's all exactly the same; same bars; same restaurants; same shops; same streets; same people...
i lived in seoul, now i live in incheon. same place... only, now i'm in songdo with a whack of parks and a little more space. oh... and i can throw a stone without hitting a hipster in tight jeans (admittedly, if i throw 2...).

Incheon as a first job / foot in the door wouldn;t be that bad.

You can get the subway to Seoul or a bus to Seoul in an hour or so which with a book or smartphone / tab wouldn't be that bad.

Plenty of other foriegners there.

Could do better (Seoul, Busan, Ilsan) - could do worse (anywhere else.)
