| I am curious swampfox when did they lower the bar for entry into the military? I thought that you had to have a clean criminal record to enlist. Has that changed and when. |
When I was in from '03-'07, they were having a hard time meeting recruitment requirements so a lot of the "minor" offenses were waiverable. I'm not sure what their numbers look like now but I thought when there was a problem with jobs, many would look to the service as a steady job so the opposite should actually hold true. They can be more selective of who they let in. |

The age limit was changed a few months ago from 42 to 34, if that tells you anything. From what I've heard through the grape vine *which may be flawed info* Reduction in force is much worse for officers, and with all the economy in a shambles, yes they are much more selective now than they were ten years ago. Not just with officers, but enlisted as well. There is a number somewhere out there if I can find it - shows that more people with college degrees are enlisting not as officers, but as enlisted - in the entire history of the army, more than ever before. These are the liberal arts majors that want to enlist and maybe try to get a warrant officer position. They go in as E4s and after five years in, they can apply for WO I believe. As long as they meet the age requirement (40 or 45), they have a shot.
I'm not an expert, and some of this info may be flawed. But this is what i've read and heard through the grape vine of some people I know who are close to or in the military. But they may be just that - military gossip. Total hearsay. And things change constantly, so what may have been true last week could change by today.
I do know that the recruiting quotas for 2011 were completed in Feb or March of this year. That means that within two or three months, they've met the quotas. That's what you call a 'jobless recovery sign' right there.

| My brother's been trying for the Air Force and Army officer corps for about a year and was finally only able to get in the Army Reserve officer corps. They are VERY selective for OCS now. |

From the thread title I totally didn't expect this thread to be about an actual, literal fire.

Air Force always meets their numbers. I think this is due to the fact they're the easiest of the services, in my opinion. I know a guy who is married to my cousin and he was in the Air Force and got out. He tried to get back in and they wouldn't let him back, though I think he was trying to reclass. They said he could come back to his old job in a location he didn't want. At least I think that's the story, I know now he's working for Coke or Pepsi or some such place. |

It's heartwarming that they allowed criminals in ahead of openly gay people. |

I was thinkin' the same thing, slick. I thought someone slept with a hooker and was in a world of pain:)
Anyway, it looks bad when the military can't even enforce its own curfew. There is too much of this how dare you attitude in America, especially among the less educated and lower class. They will shoot someone, destroy property, and, in this case, burn something. He was told to leave, so the soldier took that as offensive and insulting (you're not gonna tell me to leave), and that he has to show the bar owner. It's ridiculous. I blame this on aggressive tendencies that have increased over the past few decades. Too much of this me, me, me culture is responsible for this behavior, egoism mixed with unbalanced individualism. We need a balance. This idiot made all the military look bad. |

The military is enforcing the curfew. Those who are caught violating the curfew are punished. |

| I heard it was a dispute between the prostitute and the soldier over the cost versus the quality of service. The soldier got mad and pured kerosene on her space heater and threw a match on it, burning her place down and several adjacent brothels. |

| The funny thing is the bars are located directly behind a fire station. I wonder how fast the response was. |

| Does "Died by Bear" ever post anything other than song lyrics? It's getting pretty tired. |
