|
|
I am leaving Korea next week and my boss just said I need to pay a 50,000 won cleaning fee to clean up my apartment that I've been in the past 2 years. I don't think I should be paying this fee - the school should be paying it if they think a cleaning is needed. I kept the apartment clean and I know the guy moving in (another teacher) and he knows its clean.
Should I just tell the school I am not paying the 50,000 won? |

I definitely wouldn't pay that. It's the school's responsibility, if anything, and we all know how Koreans typically leave their apartments when they leave. Assuming you live in the standard hagwon one-room, I'd also say that 50,000 seems significantly higher than the going rate, as my understanding is that it's generally about 15,000 an hour to hire an ajumma to clean up for you. My place is one of the biggest school provided apartments I've seen, and I can't imagine someone taking that long to clean the place. |

I wouldn't pay it if the apartment is in the same/better condition than when I moved in. (minus normal wear and tear)
If you "let things go" for a while and it is in worse condition, than you should pay it.
But on the other hand, is drawing a line over this 50,000 going to jeopardize your severance, airfare, LOR or recommendation letter? |

I had to pay 100k for cleaning my officetel but I talked to my director and said I would do it myself. I did it myself and he thought it was good enough so I didnt have to pay. |

90,000 won was taken out of my 900,000 key money for leaving my apartment in a state of environmental catastrophy. It took two people three days to make that place habitable again, so I think got off cheap.
Problem?: the stench from my cigarette smoking. |

yikes
I've got paint falling from the ceiling in my patio... and a plumbing door that failed... and my school had to pay 60 bucks to replace my intercom & entry light
I don't want to part with any of MY 900,000!! |
