I went a few weeks ago. Go early in the morning or you'll wait an eternity for the ferry (you don't book it; just show up). There's only one hotel on the island, but you can see everything there is in a few hours, so I don't see why you'd want to stay overnight. Oh, and the Italian restaurant on the island is awesome. Seriously, I can't recommend eating there enough.

the japanese place however, had the worst curry i've ever had. even worse than the powdered stuff that comes in a bag that i made using random ingredients on a drunken evening. everyone in my group thought the food was atrocious.

be prepared for a bunch of people hanging around wanting to recreate the winter sonata scene, especially if it starts snowing.

Second this, also due to the cold weather it really could ruin your trip if the last 2 hours are spent waiting in the cold for a ferry.

Also there are a few hotels in the neighboring town of Gapyeong ranging from w40,000 up, which is standard for a LoveHotel.

Over-hyped? I've never heard anyone hyping it up ever!

I went several years ago and thought it was stupid. But I didn't eat at any restaurants. And they did have Tootsie Rolls.

I'm going by the three hour line for the ferry when it takes about thirty minutes to exhaust what the island has to offer.
