I'm moving on from my elementary school. I've been here several years. They said I could renew, but also gave a good recommendation to prospective employers checking my references.

I also have a friend who has been teaching in hogwans for several years. He tried to apply through EPIK, but they couldn't guarantee him a spot in Busan. His girlfriend teaches here as well so he's intent on staying here.

I think he'd be a good match for my school. It would save my coteacher the trouble of setting up a newbie and they would be able to meet and interview him rather than using the lottery that is EPIK placements. My friend would get a good school in a good location.

Has anyone successfully passed a public school job to a friend? Is it mandatory that the school go through EPIK? I don't think it is since there are often teachers hired directly by Busan MOE. Would he need to apply to the Ministry of Education or can he be chosen by our school's principal and his application passed on to the MOE?

Your school can insert him into the file of applicants. I've known of people that have done this, it happened with the last teacher at my school, and I'm considering doing this for my school when I leave.

You need all the basic paperwork for a new visa. CRC, apostille dip, reference letters. They would probably extend his visa in country or they may ship him out to Japan for a visa run.

Keep in mind, your school may still hire a recruiter to save themselves the "headache" of paperwork

Thanks for the info. I'm going to pitch the idea to them when I let them know I'm not renewing. They might go for it since it will likely take a load off my coteacher. He has his documents ready.

Yes, the school can directly hire and still be funded by EPIK.
Yes, they can accept your recommendation and hire your friend.
Yes, he will still need all the same paperwork that he would need for an EPIK application.

i got one of my public school jobs passed onto me from a friend. the school actually preferred it because they knew i could just step in and do the job. they didnt have to hold my hand as if they had a brand new teacher too.

I'd rather my school have a bad teacher after me so it makes me look better in comparison.
