for the first half of this year I was employed on an e2 visa; my employer and I made regular pension contributions.

I quit after 6 months, and took on an internship, thus halting pension contributions and changing my visa status to an e7.

My half year of pension contributions is still sitting "in the bank" ready to be claimed.

When my 6 month internship expires (and my current arc) Im assuming i will have to go the pension office and claim for the first half of the year and provide a copy of my one way ticket out of korea.

here's where the plot thickens. when my e7 expires I will have to leave the country to prevent overstay, so ill do a one day fukuoka in and out to re enter on a tourist visa.

i'd just like to come back in an tie up loose ends before heading home.
will my pension refund then be 'flagged' if i re-enter immediately on a tourist visa? ill have rescinded by arc and wont be applying for any further visas...

im worried that if i hand in my arc, leave the country and then come back on a tourist, at the pension office theyll require my arc to actually claim the pension-- thus meaning i have to do it before i pop in and out..

thoughts or past experiences appreciated...

First, to get a tourist visa, you could just stay in the country and I think you can get at least 30 days added.

You could try getting a plane ticket for your final departure from Korea, and show the pension office it. Then, I assume you would be able to receive the money within a month after leaving Korea. You can fill out a remittance form and have them send the money to your home country account.

There is no need as far as I know to have to immediately leave. If you want to extend it to the 90 day tourist visa, then yea, you probably would have to leave and re-enter. However, if it is just 30 days (or even just 14) I think you could have your visa change to tourist rather easily and save some airfare in the process.

I collected pension back in 2008, showing them a same-day return ticket to Fukuoka. At first, they were saying I couldn't do it, but I didn't budge and finally, after asking co-workers, etc., the woman at the pension office (I went to head office in Jamshil) called her boss and he said it was fine. They might check to see that you boarded the plane out of Korea before depositing the money in your Korean bank account. Anyway, the money was in my account in a day or two. Or maybe five days. Can't remember. You don't even go through immigration in Japan. They escorted me to a room and then had me follow them upstairs to the boarding area. They knew I wasn't to go through immigration and caught me while I was waiting in line.

A copy of your ARC will suffice for making your claim (along with your passport).

If you are here as a tourist (B1 or B2) then you can just claim for it.
They will forward it in about 30 days.

If your are still here on a valid visa they will need to see an exit ticket and wait to ensure that you have indeed had your status of sojourn canceled.
