I tried the search function, but can't find the exact information I am looking for.
I am wondering what the exact process is for getting an RCMP CRC. I have never done it before and can't seem to find exactly how to do it in Korea. So, here are my questions:
1. Can I get the fingerprints done at any police station in Seoul?
2. Do I need to get anything notarized before I send it off to the RCMP?
3. Is there anything else I need to do?
4. How long does it take?
Thanks in advance. |

1) Any GU-level police station = yes.
2) NO
3) Fill in the forms and follow the directions on the RCMP website.
4) Currently, about 6 months to get it here.

Hmmm... I have to renew my VISA in 3 months.... uh oh. I'll see what I can do to get it done faster and hopefully immigration will give me a VISA extension. Thanks Ttompatz. |

Another quick question. Do I need the special RCMP finger prints paper or can I send in the Korean police's finger prints paper? |

Korean police service prints are adequate.
If you are OUTSIDE OF CANADA :
Contact the nearest police force which offers fingerprinting services.
The RCMP will accept fingerprint forms from foreign countries that contain the following:
rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant
the name and address of the police agency
the signature of the official taking the fingerprints
Again, all the info you seek is on the RCMP website.

Thanks, I read that on the website but I wanted to make sure that Korean police forms were adequate before I showed up. It also says that it only takes 12 weeks to get the forms processed. Thats good news. |

Minimum is 12 weeks...
currently, from people I have talked to who are waiting, it is taking around 20-26 weeks from dropping in the mail to the results reappearing in the mailbox.

If you get them sooner, thank your lucky stars.

Has anyone had experience getting the RCMP check done in Canada. According to their website, if you do it in Canada with the electronic fingerprints, then you can get the results in a few days. Just wondering if anyone has done this, and if that is really true. I need to renew at the end of Feb. but am going home for a few weeks in January and planned to get them done while I am there, |

Well, hopefully Korean immigration doesn't have a problem with granting me an extension until my record check shows up. Thanks for the help. |

Go to your local detachment and it will be anywhere from same day to 7-days.

When I went to the police station yesterday the quite helpful guy pulled up the sheet that they would use and pointed out that there was zero English on it. I asked if there was any way to indicate it was from the Korean Police in English but that was where communication broke down. Did anyone get their fingerprints done here where it was clearly indicated that there were from the police, and if so where did they do it? |

If it's not too out of your way, I think the best thing to do is go to the Canadian Embassy (by City Hall stn), pick up the official fingerprints form and take it over to the Seodaemun-Gu Police Station (outside Seodaemun Stn...about a 5-10 min walk from the Embassy). They will give you directions and a sheet of paper with instructions in Korean to make the process at the police station a bit easier. |

When in Canada, I was under the impression that it doesn't have to be an RCMP criminal record search and that any city or provincial police service can do them. That, and that the city police are often a lot quicker in doing the criminal record checks.
Has this changed? |

Thanks for the info. I sent in for mine (I am currently in Korea) on August 26th and still waiting. I am on an E-2 visa and I need it because my work contract is finished in Korea at the end of feb and my new job starts beginning of March. I am not leaving Korea in between contracts....hopefully I am not screwed. |
