Hi,

How long can one stay in Korea on an F-1 visa?
Can it be a multiple-entry visa?
Can it be renewed without going out of the country?

I just confirmed from hiKorea that as an F-4 holder, my son is eligible for an F-4 visa and my wife (a non-Korean), an F-1 visa.

I asked them the above questions, but their answer was "depends."

So..anyone here with some actual experience with F-1?

Thanks.

1) for as long as the sponsor remains in Korea with a valid ARC.
2) there are no multi-entry visas any more. ALL registered foreigners are entitled to re-entry privileges for as long as their ARC remains valid.
3) No, but it can be extended for as long as the sponsor stays valid.

--Does this mean that our family can leave Korea and come back as many times as we want (e.g., vacations) as long as my F-4 visa is valid? That is, she does not need any permission to leave the country for future reentry or get a new F-1 to reenter the country?

3) No, but it can be extended for as long as the sponsor stays valid.

--Just to clarify...does this mean that my wife can extend her F-1 visa as long as my F-4 visa is valid and that she can extend this in Korea (without having to go abroad)?

Thanks.

2) As long as they are registered foreigners residing in Korea (hold an ARC) = yes, they are free to leave and return.

3) Yes, they do not need to leave to extend their status of sojourn. When their ARC is due to expire they apply for an extension. As long as their sponsor is a valid resident they can get the extension without leaving the country (but it does need you to spend an hour in the immigration office).
