|
|
I just posted this on the Martial Arts sticky, but I thought I'd toss it up here too in case anyone is interested. Always nice to have more people to practice with.
Korean Top Team has moved. Its new gym is at Daelim station about 100 meters out of exit 11. The gym is really nice with a ton of heavy bags, treadmills, some freeweights, and a nice big matted area. It's open from fairly early to fairly late M-F ... maybe like 6 or 8 AM to 10 or 11 PM with instruction a few times a day and open training in between.
The head coach is super friendly and speaks English well. The other people there are also friendly but more of a mixed bag with the English. A couple of UFC fighters, Jung Chan Sung (the Korean Zombie) and Yang Dongi train there and also teach classes sometimes.
There is a facebook page if you need more info, and if I see any posts in this thread or get a PM I'll try to respond--sometimes I don't check my websites very often.
Update: Also open on Saturdays until 5 PM.

I've met Yang Dongi before. He's a super nice guy and really friendly.
But he got absolutely murdered by Court McGee.
Perhaps it was the time change or jet lag, but McGee isn't that great of a fighter. I'd say if that's the level of training that goes on there, it might be best to save your MMA training until your state side again. |

Jung Chan Sung was in one of the best fights I've ever seen. He deserves the title of "zombie". That's awesome you've seen him. |

Why is his nickname 'Zombie' then? |

I believe it is 120,000 per month. Just stop by the gym to check things out and sign up. It is open Mon-Sat. Closing time is 11 PM M-F, and I think 5 PM Sat. I am not an early riser, so I am not sure what time it opens. |

On a side note, anyone see his joint fastest ever knockout at UFC 140 the other day? 7 seconds! |

Off topic (sorry) but I wanted to ask some MMA guys something.
I've seen a show on TV a couple times where MMA rookies fight experienced MMA fighters, but not in a cage. Just on mats.
The rookies all get KO'd or TKO'd by the experienced guys.
What the hell is that all about?!
And no, I'm not talking about the rookie vs. rookie MMA show. |

i did, but aside from that knockout...to the person that says its better to wait until stateside because a Korea top team fighter got beat by Court Magee....I have to ask...how many stateside gyms are putting out UFC quality fighters? The chances of the OP being in an area near enough to attend one of the handfull of those gyms are quite slim.
Korea top team may not be the best in the world...but even having only one fighter from the gym in the UFC (regardless of who they won or lost to) seem to be better that 98% of the other gyms in the US who DO NOT have fighters competing that that level. |

I pass another MMA gym on the way to my work. That Gym is nearChildren's Grand Park station, come out exit 4. Walk straight and about like 50 meters look up to the right and on the 2nd floor you will see MMA Gym letters on windows. |

I chose to ignore that troll weso1. Dongi is a great fighter--10-2 in his pro career. Jung Chan Sung is now ESPN's number 10 ranked featherweight in the world. The coaches at the gym are amazing as are many of the non-UFC professional fighters. Troll poster is a troll. |

That is the old Korean Top Team gym, now closed. Check my post that started the thread for info on the new gym. |

Jung Chan Sung offically holds the record now with another fighter...but it is not the true record. There was a 4 second knockout that Dana White will be soon confirming as the fastest. |
