I've just come back to live in Australia and it does become apparent pretty quickly why we're so happy here. Roll on summer. |

People are more content in Scandanavian countries apparently. They pay way more tax but apparently they feel secure and happy due to the social system.
Surprised that America has such a low life expectancy.
I was expecting the UK to be at the bottom because that national sport here is moaning. If you don't moan about the weather, the price of everything being a "rip-off", the economy, the government(they all steal each other policies for they are pretty much the same) and Jordan/Jade Goody/Kerry Katona being annoying then you are not really British. |

No, we're not all like that at all.
If you went on like that all day in my social crowd, you'd be ditched quicker than you could say "I'm a miserable sod.'
Some of us prefer to rise above all that crap and have a good time. |

A lot of Brits have pretty good standards of living, and at the end of the day they know it. Sure the weather sucks, but who cares about weather when you have a nice warm home to go to. That's why when the results come in they rank higher than you'd expect.
I spent most of my life in the UK, and yeah, it's very easy to get wound up about some of the problems with the country and it's government - but when you start to travel you realise it ain't so bad. |

It's not so surprising considering that 1/3 of the population is obese, and another 1/3 is overweight. The number one cause of death in the US is heart disease (mainly heart attacks).
It doesn't help the overall mortality rate that 50 million Americans have no health insurance and 19 percent smoke. |

You could lock MOST Americans in a room with an empty plastic bottle to play with and they would be happy! |

| quality of life and happiness are different things. when surveys that revolve around simply asking people 'are you happy?'/'are you satisfied with life?' come up, the results are incredibly different. places like the philippines rank up near the top, despite being political and economic basket cases, meanwhile poor old korea doesn't even make the top 100. |

I didn't really think about the obesity issue when I was reading that list, that makes sense. |

its all about what happy means isnt it? thats a cultural question. Happy here in Korea may mean to most people great job, nice house and car, and respect from all of their underlings.
to me, a black cup of coffee, sometime outside, my guitar and fuzzboxes, and a bit of green in the bank. a lovely lady is nice too |
