Hey there. So I just returned home after not being here for a couple days and found a pretty big insect near my computer. I have had roaches before while living in another apartment just outside of Seoul and I don't think that this is one (I hope!). Anyways, I searched around and came across a blog of a guy that found the same insect as me so I can provide some pictures.

If anyone knows what kind of insect this is let me know!
It's got the antennae of a cockroach, but the body looks too slim and it has two long butt prongs on the backside as well as a stinger? Looks kind of like a cricket too. |

Its a Cricket, look at the legs and body shape and antennae and head. The thing at the back is not a stinger.
Crickets are related to Cockroaches, so they have similar antennae. Not only are those things noisy, but they are destructive and will eat your clothes, and important papers. When you see them get rid of them. That thing is not going to do any harm to you though. |

Wow, thanks for the good information. Since I found this one, does it mean I have an infestation? Or was it just looking for a warm place to hang out as the weather gets colder? Ah, I'll just google it. Thanks! |

Infestation I don't think so. I've never heard of a cricket infestation. It probably crawled in when you opened the front door. |

Believe it or not, that's my blog from when I lived in Daegu and that's the bug I saw once or twice in my old apartment. In over 5 1/2 years in Korea I only saw that kind of insect a couple of times so I very much doubt there is any infestation. Good luck with your bug! |

Nice. Your pictures really came in handy as I didn't know the name of that thing. Threw it in the toilet after I saw it and after a thorough check of the apt. I haven't seen any more. I'm just glad it wasn't a cockroach..I've fought a few battles with them in the past. |

It would have been just as simple to release it outdoors. |

Whoops.. It was mostly because I don't like touching bugs, especially 4 centimeters long so it was just a knee-jerk reaction thing. Next time I'll consider you and PETA first. |

It just bugs me that so many people's first impulse on seeing any insect is to kill it. They're fascinating little creatures. |

I hate insects and they have no awareness and feel nothing. They are just biological automons. Although ecologically important there is nothing wrong with getting rid of an insect. |
