Hey everyone,
Is anyone here teaching in an international school? When do they start recruiting?
I have an MA in TESOL and I'm Maryland State certified in ESOL K-12. I taught in Korea before I finished my MA. I've been teaching ESOL in MD for 2 years now and I really want to go back to Korea and teach in an international school. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks! |

Congratulations on getting certified! I am working on mine now.
I found this map recently that had all (several) international schools marked on a Seoul map. It seems that there aren't many.

Anyway, doesn't really answer your question, but check out their individual websites and maybe the recruiting info will be there. |

There are quite a few here. But not all the schools with "international" in their name are really international. |

International schools in general start recruiting now. Google these sites:
- international schools review
- tieonline
- joyjobs
- search associates (fairs)
- tes.co.uk (jobs section) (more for British teachers but still worth a look)
- There are two more sites regarding fairs but I can't recall what they are called at the moment.
You'll probably want to sign up for a fair but some schools may conduct interviews through skype. |

Most of them have a school year that runs from Sept - June (as compared to the Korean academic year that starts in March).
Recruitment TYPICALLY takes place about 3-6 months prior to the academic school year start.
Examples of good places to look for international schools (globally) would be:
http://www.ibo.org
http://www.tes.co.uk/international-education-jobs
ESL websites are usually not the best place to be looking for international school positions.

ESL jobs in International Schools are quite competitive as there are quite a lot of well qualified ESL teachers out there (despite what the k-media say!!!!)
I would second what some other posters said. There are a lot of International Schools in Korea that are run like glorified Hagwons. Check their websites for accredition.
The accreditions to look out for are IB, WASC, ACER, the council of international schools and a few others.
Some of the biggest and best International Schools in Korea are also (sadly in my opinion) connected to Christian groups so your religion would be important.
Nearly all the bests one recruit through job fairs so you will never see their ads in general circulation. They are starting to recruit around now for Aug starts. |
