How do you contact the Labor Board in Korea? My boss and I have a departing agreement. He's letting me go. He didn't give me one month notice, which means he's giving me one month's worth of pay as required by Korean law. He told me my last day is the November the 30th. He's agreed (in writing) to give me my release letter on November 30th. However, I've have a temporary position in the Daegu area, and they want me to start on December 5th. I'll work for them for two months, and then I'll have my permanent job in late February 20th of next year.

Is there any way I can contact the Labor Board? I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I don't understand why you feel you need labor board. You stated you have an agreement. The matter should be dealt with through immigration.

immigration is used for work/visa related issues (like switching employers and temporary positions).

Labor board is used when your boss isn't paying what is in the contract.

The Labor Board may be an issue because according to my boss gave me notice on November 23rd, and he wants me to stop working on November 30th and that is fine with me. However, my understanding of Korean Labor Law is he has to give me 30 days notice or he has to give me 30 days of pays. I get the impression from him that doesn't want to give me 30 days of pay. That is why I think the Labor Board may be a factor.

Sounds like you and the boss already had a departing agreement and you are starting the new job early December. So what are you losing? He might have to pay you a week's worth of pay(when you are unemployed) but good luck with that. I wouldn't do anything until you have the LOR and have started your new job though.

So, I should wait until I get the LOR, then I should call the Labor Board when I'm at my new job? Is that what you're inferring bbunce?

I think what he's saying is that since you'll only be unemployed for 2 days that you may not be entitled to collect the 30 days notice pay, but you might be able to fight and collect for the two days you are out of work.

Here is my situation. My last day is tomorrow. I was given notice on November 22nd. (So, that is 8 days of notice.) We have a written agreement that says I get my LOR tomorrow, and I get 23 days of pay for next month minus my airfare to get here. I had my recruiter there as a witness while I signed the written agreement for my departure of the school. My new job will contractually start on December 5th. Now it is my understanding of Korean Labor Law that I have to be given 30 days notice or being given 30 days of pay, but I've also learned that there also can be a combination of those things. Am I right? Or once I have my new job on December the 5th, then do I give up my right of 30 days notice/30 days of pay?
