We were shocked to find as much as 650,000 won taken directly from our paychecks to pay back a govt oversight today. No warning given. Apparently the foreigner tax breaks from 2008-2009 were not figured into healthcare costs somehow. Our univ just hit us up for it unannounced! Anyone else take a hit? There is a variance in charges for some of us here and it makes no sense yet. I was hit for far less.
Has me worried about next month now that people have compared and I just got hit for less.

a bunch of teachers over at hongik were hit with this last month, they got an email from the admin like 3 days from pay day about it.
to say the least they were extremely upset about it |

| Did they get charged widely various amounts? We had people get hit from between 100,000 to 600,000 or so. We can't seem to determine any reason as to why different people got hit with what. Some people with f2 visas, for example, had to pay 100,000 another 300 and another over 600. One E2 paid over 600. |

| I got a notice in the mail saying I was erroneously charged the same rate as a Korean national for medical expenses at certain times. The bill was around 123,000 won so I paid it, no big deal. |

My coworkers wife did. It is legit. Apparently our medical insurance was erroneously billed at the same discounted percent as general tax, or some such oddity. Anyway, she said what they did was not shady. |

from what i was told by people who had the money taken out, univs are now being audited by the nts, nhic etc to make sure they based pension, health insurance deductions on the gross wages not the "discounted rate" that us waegooks had.
what stinks is that some people owe 600-700k and its being taken out all at once instead of in installments and the short notice people got |

That would be annoying. Typically back taxes can be paid back in smaller payments over time if the amount is significant. Perhaps Korea does not use such a system? |

Must have something to do with how often we see the doctor, and thise bills? I rarely go. How about you, Yaya? |
