I think that is great. That is one of the reasons I like living in Korea. You can do lots of stuff that would get you busted in stick-up-the-ass western countries.
You wanna run reds? Go for it!
You wanna open a bar in a tent? Go for it!
You wanna drink beer and smoke in a public park? Go for it!

While that stuff does have its charm...
You wanna beat your wife? Go for it!

You wanna collect bribes as a teacher? Go for it!
You wanna throw trash anywhere? Go for it!
You wanna not follow proper sanitary procedure? Go for it! |
Korea has nothing on China in these departments.
Anyway, yeah, this driver has some skills! I think he'd be better on a race track than on a public street. |
Oh yes! China is far worse than Korea could ever be. In Korea they use brooms to clean the side walks. In China I saw them using shovels. |

Actually the law against collecting bribes as a teacher IS enforced and quite strictly too. |

I wouldn't feel to bad if this guy was pulled out of his vehicle and shot. I don't think that's all that harsh a penalty either. We would save more than a few lives.
I've seen a few accidents from these idiots. One accident the tow truck driver ripped through an intersection going about 100km/h and hit a car. The poor driver had no idea what hit him and I'm not sure he ever made it back to his family. He was alive when I got there, but covered in blood and lucky to be breathing. A crushed rib cage and collapsed lung likely killed him before he got to the hospital.
On a funny note, one tow truck driver blipped his siren just before he ripped through an intersection. Of course there was no time for people to react and he hit a small Matiz. He got out to yell at the driver of the Matiz for being an idiot. The guy driving the Matiz got out and was one of the biggest Koreans I'd ever seen. The tow truck driver shut up in a hurry, quickly said sorry and gave all his information to the driver. |

| I think they should make these guys ambulance drivers. They may actually be able to get to an emergency in time. |

What can I say? I had too much garlic in roasted next to my Samgyupsal.
Seriously, the ridiculous must be balanced with the other side.
What he says is true, and it is good. But the ledger records the red as well as the black. And that is certainly in the red.
On another thread I might have posted what he posted. But, that was posted first and it was posted without regard to the ledger... |

Anyone that sees the humor in this does not drive in Korea. From now on, I am going to make it my personal goal to cut these guys off and slow them up as much as possible. Anyone with a car should do the same.
There is a culture among these douche bags to get to the scene no matter what the risk is. There was a post on here about three years ago about one guy saying he saw one of these drivers kill somebody. Screw them. |

Right. They're not actually an emergency service. They don't have any rights at all to drive differently, use sirens, or demand anything from other motorists.
They're just civilians who drive like drunken monkeys to get some cash. And no, I don't admire their driving skill. Would you call them great drivers after they inevitably wipe out a young family?
It's becoming like a sub-culture now. They're even writing their names on the sides of their trucks like race-car drivers do. Getting flashy mods done to their trucks. It's like the job of choice for petrol-heads who love dangerous driving.
So yeah, I'm with you. I'm going to block them any chance I get!! |

Been blocking these guys for years now, well, i wont say "block" but sure as heck not making any extra attempt to get out of their way or otherwise clear their path, but I will throw in that I do the same for taxi drivers as well as buses, who are FAR more numerous and whos wild antics cause much more congestion/brake stomping than anyone on the road. |

^ True.........the buses and taxis, don't forget delivery motorbikes, are the biggest culprits on a daily basis......it seems to be the attitude in Korea that if you drive for a living then you can cut corners, take more risks, drive faster, be a bigger a**hole, and the cops will tolerate it.
A Korean bus driver would be fired on his first day if he got a job somewhere like London. |

I understand the bus drivers a bit after meeting a few over the years here. I don't agree with it but I understand why they do it.
The city bus drivers are given near impossible schedules that if they don't keep, their pay is docked.
They've all said their pay is docked every month without fail as it's impossible to keep to the schedules they are given.
As for taxis, tow trucks, deliver bikes, they can all go jump. I never get out of their way. |

A lot of it is due to the apparent purely ornamental role of K-cops.
yesterday i saw a traffic cop flagging down a motorcyclist, who slowed down until the policeman stepped out of the way, and then he simply accelerated away.
Watching him for ten minutes it was basically obvious that
a) He created more traffic problems than he solved
and
b) He was mostly ignored by traffic
Korean drivers have a blase nonchalance that would put parisiens to shame. |
