When South Koreans are not racking up overtime, they're collecting bandwidth fees.
Seouls Internet has been honed, sculpted, streamlined and sped up to such a degree that no one really needs to move, at all, ever, except maybe when the orc hordes descend in "World of Warcraft" and some rapid double-clicking is required.
South Korea has been ranked the 15th laziest country in the world (and the first in Asia) by The Daily Beast. And there's every reason to assume they'll get even lazier.
A recently proposed government policy seeks to advance digital technology in the capital, partly influenced by demand for online gaming and streaming video, and will take Internet speeds to 1,000 Mbps by 2012.
So if some of the 39 million connected South Koreans wanted to emulate their favourite national soccer heroes, they may as well just do it via "FIFA Manager."

Ooooooooooooooooooohhhh, I'll get the popcorn....
Get ready for the usual suspects defending Korea, claiming CNN is a secret tool of Imperialist Japanese mafia who wish to re-colonize Korea and a myriad of personal insults. You read American news?! WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM IF YOU HATE IT HERE SO MUCH!!!!!
Having said that, I think it's a bit silly to deduce that fast bandwidth + high internet users = lazy population. I think they were just being cute with that label. I wouldn't put too much thought into it. |

Inefficient, maybe. Lazy? Not at all. If anything people work harder because of how inefficient things are. |

I thought this was going to be a troll post based on the headline but it actually makes sense.
They work hard but a lot of them don't do any outdoor activities. Even PE time at my school the kids don't have much zest and it seems to involve a lot of sitting arround.
A big contrast to back home where kids need little prompting to play sport.
That said in the older brackets I think Korea does really well and perhaps beats western countries, credit to the old people who go out hiking so often. |

I thought this was going to be about how Koreans work some of the longest hours in the entire world while also having one of the lowest efficiency ratings in the developed world. |

Screw that. Time to celebrate in true Korean fashion
We're #1! We're #1!
Quick get my giant foam finger and air-shootin six-shooters! Break out the Soju and Samgyupsal Ethel Kim! Give the kids Man Won to go splurge on Roman Candles at the stationary store!
And, and...isn't that the PC Bang in COEX? It must be because that PC Bang is one of the few that isn't filled with smoke and that PC Bang seems smoke-free.
That's embarrassing that I know that. |
