There is a small forum in Korea dedicated only to F5 visa holders. In fact, an F5 residency card scan must be submitted to register, so the membership is way small. I joined about 18 months ago and for the life of me cannot find its Web address. An hour with Google fails on this one.

Any help?

Thanks, 2dpigs

It's not F5 only, but perhaps you're talking about AFEK?

As far as I know though, they allow all types of F visas (and certain amount of E visas).

You're registered at www.afek.info

As CC correctly stated however, it is not only for F-5 visa holders. It is open to F-2 / 4 / and 5 visa holders that have a valid ARC.

There is also a separate part of AFEK that is open to all. Any form of ID showing the first initials of the registrant and their DOB will gain them access to that part of AFEK.

If you have any other trouble signing back in 2dpigs, PM me...

Capt. Corea,

I would have pm-ed you, but I lack sufficient posts to do so. I posted on AFEK under the user name of aeolion, asking about going from F5 to citizenship. No replies. I have had an F5 for maybe 10-12 years, got divorced 3-1/2 years ago (her idea), married a Vietnamese woman 18 months ago, couldn't get her into Korea, so we hung out in Thailand. So I have been out of country maybe 26 months (with a return to keep F5 valid). I have read up on Korean citizenship on the Web, but the sets of official Web pages and real life may have minimal intersection.

I think I can get her into Korea now. What can I plan on (hope for) as to the citizenship. Before my travels starting a couple of years ago, I worked in Korea uninterrupted from 1990 on.

I could really use some help, because if citizenship is really iffy, I may have to make other plans.

If you've got a current F5, I'm surprised you don't simply sponsor her as a dependent.

You say you couldn't get her into Korea... How'd that go?

I could easily have gotten her into Korea on a 90-day visitors visa, with Immigration promising that a long-term visa was just a formality.

But the Korean embassy in Singapore said we had to get her 90-day visa in her home country, VN. The Korean embassy in VN said no problem, we just needed to register our Singapore marriage in Vietnam. A simple matter, if the officials cooperate.

But they did not. So it was a VN problem, not a Korean problem.

But right now the problem is that although I have been a permanent resident of Korea (F5), I have been out of Korea fly fishing in NZ abd on the SE Asian beaches with my wife for a little over two years, with a quick trip back to Korea alone to keep my F5.

The question is this: Assuming we are successful in getting our marriage registered this time and we can hit Korea, how will that time away affect the time frame of citizenship?

Thanks.

My understanding was that if you marry an F-5 holder, you can get an F-2. Maybe it's just people not knowing what they're talking about?

I'm not sure why you're focused on citizenship. I, and the posters above agree that an F5 can sponsor someone.

An ID to register for a website? Redunkulous.

Actually you got several responses to your one inquiry, some from myself in fact.

We also have members are in various stages of aquiring dual citizenship and some that have completed the process. Multiple threads detailing their experiences as well.

If you would like some help navigating over there you can always PM me there. Here is not the place. Thanks.

**edit** I see your post now about F-5 to citizenship. You posted it on the public forum and not the F visa forum. I'll move it for you later today.

Again if you have issues there then PM me there.

Requirements for naturalization from the immigration web site by the way...

Quote:

Must have had domicile address in R.O.K. for more than 5 consecutive years
Must be legally adult according to Korean Civil Law
Must have good conduct
Must have the ability to maintain living on his/her own assets or skills; or is a dependent member of a family capable of the feat.
Applicants must have basic knowledge befitting a Korean national; such as understanding of the Korean language, customs and culture

So, if you currently do not have a domicile address in Korea your "clock" is at zero.
