Thanks for the replies. As I said, I earn a decent salary at my current job -- over 5 million a month -- but I'm hoping to make a lot more in the future. I hope that I can get at least a 1 million won a month pay raise when I sign my next contract. Considering what other test-prep academies pay, I don't think this would be asking for too much.

Yes, I've heard this many times, and while I don't doubt there are some teachers making this kind of money, I have to ask: are any of them Westerners? I do know that the Korean teachers usually lecture almost exclusively in Korean, and while I've studied Korean fairly hard during my time here, I'm still not at the level where I can conduct a class using mostly Korean. If I get my Korean to an advanced level, do you think I'd be able to get one of the jobs lecturing to huge masses of college and adult students? |

No westerners as far as I know. These top-tier test prep tutors cover a wide range and teach in Korean, so a native level of Korean is a bare minimum. You'd also need top-tier Korea specific credentials, which foreigners aren't really into. |

Mostly Korean-Americans. There are a few, though, in the $200-400k range, doing SAT and AP prep. Not naming names, I'm sure you understand. |

| It is a blessing that I am married to a wife who earns more than the Korean profs at most universities here. Even with our double income, the housing and inflation costs make me wonder how families on one income can make ends meet and still save anything. Seoul is nutty expensive now. It will suck when we are older and on one income. |

I knew a guy attending an Ivy league who took a break and came here found work writing essays to Americans schools for Korean students. He pulled bank- although the work was morally bankrupt |

5 million a month with all benefits included is getting close to the upper limit for E2 workers. It can be exceeded, but it's rare.
If you are at 4 million, consider yourself lucky.
3 million is entry level. |
