I don't know how many there are in Suwon but I can tell you very sincerely that you do not want to work at the one in Yeongtong or the one in Jangan-gu just west of Mansook park.

If you do, you will be back here and I will say, "I told you so!"

The good news is that you will get your base salary and rent paid.
The bad news is that you won't get anything else (no NPS, NHIC, overtime (even though you will work it)).

I worked at a Wonderland franchise (my first job in Korea) which is no longer in business (I lasted 6 months there in 2008 before I was fired). I have been in Korea ever since and my time in Korea has been generally positive, minus the Wonderland part. It was my first job in Korea, I was going through some personal problems and teaching was new to me. I am not at all bitter about having been fired.

Although my experience was very negative, it really does depend on the franchise. In all fairness, I think that at least part of the reason why you hear so many bad things about Wonderland is because it is a kindy. Anyone who knows anything about teaching English in Korea knows that teaching kindy is generally the most demanding position.

Again, I am not suggesting that this is necessarily representative of Wonderland, but these are the good and bad points from my experience:

Good points:

-My apartment was better than average
-I was always paid on time
-They complied with national pension and national health insurance

Bad points:

-My working day was from 9-6 but I usually wasn't finished until about 8 (a good day would be finishing at 7 and I probably was able to actually leave at 6 once a month)

-My franchise was poorly organized and there were many conflicts between the Korean teachers. It was heartbreaking to see my very dear little Korean friend (teacher) crying with her head down and being yelled at by a much bigger teacher (another woman) who was a bully. She later told me she was very scared and that's why she wouldn't yell back.

Again none of this is necessarily representative of Wonderland. Do however keep in mind that it is a kindy and that teaching kindy tends to be the most demanding. The good news is that if you survive a year at Wonderland (you probably will) and plan to stay in Korea, having Wonderland on your resume and a good reference from them will give you a strong advantage when you look for another position in Korea.

Good luck!!!!

Don't do it. There are better jobs out there. Check the blacklist to see if this hagwon is on there.
