How do I get one of these FBI background checks?
Can I get it done without going back to the US?

Thanks!

Go to their website and follow the directions?

Seriously, just look back a page or 5... there are literally thousands of posts on the how-to's of getting an FBI check done.

The Seoul Police have very recently (like two weeks ago) passed a sweeping requirement for most Seoul universities for their foreign teachers (ANY foreign citizen, no matter what type of visa or their ethnicity) to have criminal background checks ASAP.

Crazy, stupid stuff that nobody has taken the time to think out.

Has anyone else heard of this? I have the Korean document from the Seoul City Police right here, but I've seen nothing about it on this or other boards. I checked and double checked the info.

It is NOT the Seoul Police.

POE/MOE and it is for ALL teachers in Korea.

The law was passed last July for implementation at the start of the new school year.

Some POEs are jumping the gun and doing it now so they don't get screwed with a mass exodus of teachers at the opening of the new year.

The major problem is that you can't buy a return FEDEX or DHL or UPS envelope in a foriegn country. You will have to use FEDEX and have an account with them to have your documents returned by a fast effective courier. Or you have to have a friend you can depend on to courier your documents back and forth and then make sure they are couriered to your foriegn address. I had my documents shipped back to Thailand by mail, it took 3 months, totally worthless. REMEMBER IT HAS TO GO TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO BE APOSTILLED AFTER IT COMES FROM THE FBI. Also you will have to include a written request for your CBC to be notarized with your CBC application to the FBI

Clinton, thanks for the great info!

ttompatz: thanks as well for the info! any idea why this document that has announced this requirement for foreign university teachers that I am looking at right now says "서울특별시지방경찰청" and is stamped/signed again by the 서울특별시지방경찰청?
