| So for the uninitiated, what are the different areas of Suwon and which should be avoided? |

Suwon is pretty good. Some random points:
- close enough to Seoul for convenient trips. Limited public transport back late at nite tho - you have to either wait for the morning, or take a cab (~40K?)
- Geographically, it's a bit weird, and moving around within suwon is not always easy. If you are unlucky, it may take you an hour just to get to the train station, so although it's is close to seoul, it is not always super-convenient unless you live in the right place. There are quite a few bus routes to Gangnam etc, so it's not too bad.
- if your employer and the conditions of your visa permit (wink), there seemed to be plenty of 7-8am or 6-8pm after-hours business english gigs for 30-45k/hr, advertised on certain easy-to-find websites. |

Thanks!
But what's the best part to live in? I've heard good things about Yeongteong. |

I've lived in Yeongtong (about 3 blocks behind the pedway at the Home Plus bus stop) and in the north part of the city (Haniltown) by the sports complex and close enough to walk to the north gate of the walled city.
Both were pretty decent and upscale.

Anywhere west of the train tracks is pretty well dead. Most foreigners in Suwon seem to live in Yeongtong, but that area's pretty inconvenient if you want to get up to Seoul. Woncheon is a construction site now. Does anyone know where you can find the pictures of the amusement park abandoned?
Paldal-gu has the most life to it, but northern Suwon is quieter and more convenient. Two good areas to go up there are the market in Pajang-dong and the area around Sunkyunkwan University. Also, Man Suck Park and Yogisan Park are good places to go outside if you want something different from Hwaseong Fortress. |

Bus 5100 picks up in Yeongtong and goes to Gangnam Station in about 45 minutes. There's another bus that goes to Jamsil from Yeongtong, but I forget the exact number.
Gangnam is a solid landing point for Seoul, as you can get on the 2 or 9 (Sinnonhyeon Stn, by Kyobo bookstore) and from there quickly get on just about any other line. |

I'm not a fan of Gangnam, but that does sound quicker than I was expecting, traffic depending of course. I figured any bus from Yeongtong would pass through northern Suwon as well, but I guess it must take some expressway I'm not familiar with. |

I lived in Yeongtong for over a year and its a great place to live once you get settled, during the week its pretty lively Friday nights in NowBar stick in the mind for mostly good reasons.
Weekends most people head to Seoul, as mentioned previously the bus to Gangnam is only 45mins away and Itaewon or Hongdae can be accessed in little over an hour.
The area around Suwon Station is pretty lively and also Ingaedong is worth checking out. |

| I don't know much about Suwon itself, but the old city wall is a wonderful place for a stroll. I wish I could be there now! |

Ok here's the deal. Not to hi-jack the thread but its Suwon relevant.
22 years old. One month down. Zero friends.
Want Hanguk yoja chingu and friends.
Where do I go. Live next to Hwaseo station.
Any good bars/clubs I can get to with ease? Suwon station?
Anyone wanna hold my hang and be my wingman?
Thanks,

Yeongtong is pretty close to the Kyungbu Expressway and the Yongin-Seoul Expressway. Both can get jammed up at times, but there are buses that originate around Kyunghee University, run through Yeongtong, and head up to Jamsil/Dong-Seoul Terminal, Gangnam, and even Hannam-dong near Itaewon. |

I may be doing a camp this winter in Suwon. I've been there once as an ex moved there. On a another thread here I heard that the main wayguk bar is called The Big Chill. Specifically where is it located and are there other bars where foreigners congregate?
Non foreigner dominated bars/clubs as well that are interesting would be cool to know as well. |

Found an address for The Big Chill. Are there other wayguk bars nearby or whatever in Suwon?
If so, what is/are the name(s) and where exactly is/are it located? |

I think there's another one in the same building, same owner. |
