I bought one of those big floor heating mats. The problem is that it warms up only slightly. It is comfortable to sleep on, but there is virtually no increase in temperature in my room. (I'm still freezing)

Does anyone have experience with these? Is this how it is supposed to be? Nonetheless, I've already made up my mind to call the company I bought it from first thing in the morning and have them take their product back.

Advice on how to save money on heating is also much appreciated. Smile

I've seen those products on infomercials (is that a proper word?).

Anyway, i wouldn't have expected them to heat the room. I'd say they're only for lying on. If you said it's warm enough to lie on then it's done its job.

I did watch those before I bought one for myself. Many of those infomercials presented their heaters alongside meteorites, firestorms and apocalyptic flames, so, you know, I just assumed the product might be warmer than my LCD monitor, for example. Even more, some infomercials also guaranteed that it heats up the air in your room to around 25 degrees.

I bought a 1 metre by 1.8 metre one that you put on your bed and lie on. I put in on 'sleep' setting which is level 3 out of 7 and it keeps me plenty warm at the moment. I have it under a blanket which I lie on.

Level 7 is very warm indeed.

Only 20k from an underground market!

Maybe you bought a cheap one. Mine gets way too hot if I turn it up.

I also bought an electric pad for my bed and it's great. I only turn my to level 1 and that's almost too much.

I usually turn it off in the middle of the night because it works too well sometimes.

The heat doesnt really radiate though so I'm not sure if one of the larger pads would heat your room well.

My ondol is electric (no water) and very inefficient so I would assume the case would be the same for those heating pads if you dont sleep on the floor.

I paid 100.000 won for mine and it's 1.5x1.8m - half the size of my room.

My room also has ondol heating powered by a gas boiler. Merely setting the the temp. to level 2 generally does the trick, no to mention, I can also crank it up to max level if I ever require a personal sauna. On the other hand, the electric mat barely reaches what would be called 'warm' if put on the highest possible setting for 3-4 hours. But I understand this was to be expected since these mats were designed for sleeping and not room heating after all.

.. even so, this one that I just bought is terrible for sleeping on.

indeed it is, but it sounds like the internet needs to be YOUR friend.

stop scaremongering and saying stupid stuff. there is no proof that the emf's generated from household appliances (including electric pads and blankets) cause cancer. you are spouting off nonsense that was first hyped up in the 90's, get with the times.

your cell phone creates much more radiation than your bedpad, you can be sure of that.

Yeah I already knew swinewho was trolling, thus I merely asked him for links, hoping he would show himself up further by posting spurious information from uncredible sources, for a laugh.

Like smoking didn't cause cancer in the 50s......

Like having a cell phone glued to your head for hours a day late 90s-present......

Lying on a mat...........
