So I think I'm finished here and want to visit a few countries before going back to America.
Has anybody done this before? Is it really expensive? I wanna hit up India, Russia, Japan, and maybe Europe or the middle east.
Or.....would it be cheaper to just roll into India after Japan and take trains the rest of the way? I wanna do backpacking so the time contraints might be quite limiting on a around the world ticket. |

around the world tickets are only good if you maximize every stop and segment allowed by the ticket with enough time to actually enjoy each stop. if you don't then you can actually do most vacations for much cheaper than an around the world ticket.
however, around the world tickets are a steal if you use mileage. 140k on star alliance for a ticket that worth around 5,000usd. this is in comparison to a 70k ticket from seoul to los angeles that might cost around 1,200usd.
if you have the time and the money to pay for hotels/lodging and food in 8-10 different locations around the globe for about a month, an around the world ticket is a great idea. if you don't (and most don't) i'd suggest getting multiple tickets for a more localized trip, like backpacking around se asia then doing the trans-siberian trip through russia. |
