Not a bad idea.
Did you know people all over the world study English their whole life in hopes of one day being able to come to live in the United States? It's the richest country in the world and the top choice for immigrants. People on this board who say America has gone to pot really don't know what they are talking about.
Also, awesome has more than one meaning, and educated people understand the non-colloquial context.
Yes, awesome possibilities exist in the U.S. for the intelligent and hard working. |
Why don't you live there? Serious question and not meant to be a troll post. If you feel the way you do about the United States (which I don't take any umbradge with, I like the States) why do you choose to live elsewhere. If I felt the way about my home country (the UK) that you do about yours I doubt I would have ever left (or I would have returned quickly if I did). |

I'm going to second Mexico. It's really a wonderful country.
I'm also going to give a plug for New York City, which actually reminds me of Seoul and big Korean cities in many ways, but has a lot more going on. |

I must go there and seek out the awesomeness! Will they give me freedom and democracy? And can I get fries with it? |
Not that I am on board with the other dudes jingoistic posts but this is lame, not even slightly funny and essential concedes you lost the argument. |

Spent time working in both countries.Lovely places and bloody fascinating cultures and historical sites, but you'll have to get used to living on rolls and soup packets to survive. |
Really? I heard the money was decent in Prague. I converted it to won and the girl I talked to there was making ~1.6 million. Not as much as here, but you can live alright on that there. |
1.6 is higher than the going rate and let's not forget that Prague is an international tourist haven with prices to match. For example,a decentish flat anywhere near the centrum is going to take most of an ESLer's salary. |

Yes in Mexico pretty much anywhere south of Nayarit and Zacatecas states is fine, excluding large parts of Michoacan and Acapulco. Best places to go and teach would be Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Mexico City, Merida to name a few.
The TV is way over the top, I felt a lot safer from random street violence in Mexico than I do in England. The only problem i ever had during over 3 years in Mexico was the police, stopped me at 22:00 one night and changed the money in my wallet for counterfeit notes Dont let that put you off though. |

I have to give a plug to Hong Kong, I lived there for a year and loved it. Its definitely worth it if you were thinking about staying in Asia.
Someone also mentioned Poland and the Czech Republic. If you do go to Poland then I wouldn't recommend Warsaw, there are some great cities in that country but the capital where I was isn't one of them. I have heard Krakow is meant to be amazing.
Also, Prague is my second home! I have family there, and would highly, highly recommend it. The food/beer is good, the architecture amazing and its really rich in culture. I think if you want to go to Europe, you should definitely go there, although don't expect to be paid much. |

| HK is great if you have the qualifications and get into one of their very good programs. |

HK was great for me, and I wasn't in one of their programs. Just a normal kindy, and it was still pretty awesome. The NET program is really hit or miss depending on placements. The money is awesome, but you most likely will be placed in the New Territories or further. I know people in this program who jumped ship for something else.
So as long as you have a year's experience, (which I am guessing the OP has) then HK is still doable. A CELTA (or equivalent) would be handy too, but for my old position it wasn't necessary. It depends what the OP wants, but if its experiencing a great city, (and not money) then blow it all in HK and have a blast! |

Im sorry, and who am I to tell you what to do with your life, but what are you guys talking about traveling around to Prague and Mexico City going to do for retirement money?
You are making peanuts now, what are you going to do when your bald, fat and fifty with 25k in the bank?
I think most ESLers have the mind of a naive child--never thinking about the future and one day it will all blow up in their face. |
Online income as well. If you look at places like wickedfire and flippa you'll see what I mean. |

Perhaps but he has a point. An ill-presented and probably accidental point but a point nevertheless.
Actually he does not know he has this point so do not let him know.
Now to do well you need to plan and realize what a building block approach is. That simply means, figuring where you want to go and working towards that. It also means realizing that what you do now will determine what options you have later.
Good luck. |

The first is a forum, the second is a type of ebay for websites. Don't take this the wrong way, but you could have found this out by simplying doing an internet search rather than posting. Just add a dot com at the end. |
